In the past, if I placed a page under another page in the site manager - visiting the page online after publishing would look something like:

domain/page/subpage

I noticed it does this now for me

domain/subpage

any ideas why?

There is a difference between a sub page and a sub folder.
A sub page is in the same folder, and it is only used to organize pages in the Site Manager it does not affect the published site structure.
A page added to a sub folder will also be published in a sub folder on the server.

You can create sub folders in the Site Manager:
