Secure Credit Card Processing, Naval and likes pls read

Post by me.prosenjeet »

I am looking for a client in a way to get him donations/contributions for an NGO for non profit activities.
Paypal has stopped its services to receive Donations in India and I am not aware of any similar services that allows donations.(If you know any, let me know)
Hence I am looking for a direct payment processing option for the site which will transfer the fund to the NGO's bank account without the need of likes of Paypal.
Can anyone suggest something or have a custom made solution?
Naval, if you are reading please respond
It will be great, if you could explain a bit as to how these direct credit card processing thing work, I mean what all things are required to get it started?

Hi,

You would need this to be custom programmed. Also this would be expensive to.

Also for example there bank will likely need to be a business account that accepts and processes payments, banks will likely charge for this, usually a fee on each transaction. Different countries offer different services of course but i guess it maybe the same in there country to.

Regards,
Mathew

This may sound a little off center.
IF paypal no longer handles donations, will they still accept and process a sale for your client? How about selling them something? Perhaps a pdf file of all the nice things their payment just bought? Make several buttons with the appropriate sized ....err...payment perhaps.

Ya, the idea of selling pdf is good. But Paypal communicated specifically, that they cannot process donations but allow services and sales. But what services can be added that masks a donation? Because irrelevant names makes paypal suspicious and the donor will also be taken aback by irrelevant names of the products. The services name cannot be "Buy a dinner for a disabled" cos this is a sort of sponsor/donation rephrased!

you only label it on the site. The product is an "information package" or something along those lines.

Yes, you run the risk of paypal figuring it out and banning you . Must be they ran into too many fraudulent charities and pulled the plug.

What about google checkout? Does it work like paypal?

Just a thought. Over here in the States charities have to be registered with the government. We only have to make a phone call or do a search to find out the background of any charity.
Does India have the same thing?
Maybe that's Paypal's problem. They can't tell the difference between legitimate organizations and scammers.

I have already procured all relevant documents from my client and sent to paypal but they say, I quote:
Due to legal and regulatory constraints in India, PayPal Pte. Ltd. is
unable to process payments for your charity and/ or non-profit
organization, since it uses PayPal for receiving online donations without
involving the purchase of any goods or services.

For your protection, we have limited access to your account until
transaction validation measures can be completed. We apologize for any
inconvenience this may cause.

If your charity / non-profit organization uses PayPal to receive payments
for products or services sold online, please contact PayPal by sending
email to apacddd(changed)@paypal.com from your registered email address.
I will have a look at google checkout also

Googlr checkout is only available to UK and USA residents.

Authorize.net unfortunately only available to US merchants.

There is one general procedure: you open a merchant account with a payment gateway that accepts transactions / bank accounts from India. This usually has a setup and a monthly fee, PLUS a % commission. If donations are just a small amount per month, I'd say this is inconvenient.

After setting up your merchant account, you can use their own code (they ALL have example codes) to create donation buttons on your site. The transaction should actually go through the payment gateway's secure server, to avoid complications.
