Masterframe / adwords whitespace inserted into page - SOLVED

Post by adrian5750 »

HI Folks
My client has been running/updating her website for a few years now. I initially designed the site and the structure, she's been doing a lot of updating within that framework.

Site is www.mast.ie - one of the problem pages is http://www.mast.ie/what_s_on.html

I was asked to look at an issue with it - problem's showing on quite a few pages - perhaps the easiest to see is the "What's on' page.
The header (with logo & navigation) and the footer (with the grass and the text details) are part of the master-frame.
Also in the master-frame is the "adwords remarketing" div - which contains
<img height="1" width="1" style="border-style:none;" alt="" src="//googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/viewthroughconversion/1003015006/?value=0&amp;guid=ON&amp;script=0"/>
Don't know if this is significant?

On the "What's on" page, and some others, there's a large amount of white-space opened up between the end of the page content and the footer.

If I correct the page-length in wysiwyg then it looks OK in edit, but, once published, the whitespace reappears in the published html.

Any idea what's going on, please?
Thanks
Adrian

Maybe the person doing the site now has added a flex container or layout grid with nothing in it but the padding set very high? Perhaps as the result of a copy/paste that didn't go as planned. As far as I understand it, the page size within WWB is only for the working space within the program and content determines the published web page size.

I cannot see what the client has done based on the HTML code only.
To be able to help with this I need the project.

See this related FAQ:

HI Folks
Yes - it's always hard to know just what a client's done - but I don't think this particular one is down to finger-trouble....
Anyway - here's a page with a link to the wbs file

https://www.inspired-glass.com/whitespace.html

No images included, but you can see the 'live' page here http://www.mast.ie/what_s_on.html

Thanks

The 'built-with' logo is at position: 523, 19018
This is why the page size is so long.

Hi Pablo

Thanks. The wbs file I provided is the one straight from the client..
I _thought_ last night that I'd tried removing the 'made with' logo - and manually adjusting the page size, but I _thought_ that the problem had persisted.. I've just done it again, and it seems ok on a local publish - so I must have been mistaken.
Thanks for checking..
The client would have upgraded from wb12 or wb13 - when upgrading is there a way _not_ to get the 'made with' logo shwoing up on existing pages? Is it because (perhaps) they edited their existing site with the trial version of WB14, before actually purchasing it?

Just remind me - is the page-length just a convenience when editing, and is it the page content that defines the actual published page length? I've been away from WB for a while... sorry for asking 'beginner' questions.

There's an issue with another of the pages in the site - it's page 'what-s-on-next'
There seem to be a number of 'stray' elements on this page (probably due to finger-trouble!) - which are pushing the end of the page down and creating the apprent whitespace. Some of these things are only 1px x 1px - and are a pain to track down and remove.
I've been doing CTRL-A in the editor to highlight everything, and then slowly scrolling down through the 'whitespace' - don't suppose there's any other (easier) way?

Thanks
Adrian

HI Pablo
A further question... (sorry)
If I edit the offending pages to correct the problem (of stray images / text boxes), and upload them to the live server,
then upload the edited wbs file - am I right in thiking that the client can then download that wbs file and carry on as normal?

I don't have a complete zipped-up project (with images) here - but I'm thinking that doesn't matter?
Am I right?

Thanks
Adrian

Is it because (perhaps) they edited their existing site with the trial version of WB14, before actually purchasing it?
If the project was saved using the trial version then the logo was added to each page.
You can quickly remove the logo from all page with the 'Remove logo' option.

The page size if defined by the content on the page.

I did find the logo via the Object Manager. If you double click an object then the page will scroll to the object, so you can see if it's outside the page boundaries.

Correct

>>Brilliant! you've just saved me a heap of work. Thanks.

The page size if defined by the content on the page.

>>Right - so Object Manager, double-click on any 'likely suspects' and delete them if they don;t have a convincing reason for being there. That I can do.

Correct
>>Excellent - many thanks...
Guess what I'm doing this afternoon!

Thanks for your help, as always
