A page causes APPCRASH

Post by DaveBar »

I have a problem with a project file GBKcio-Website.wbs in that when I go to one particular page in this project the application crashes.

To replicate this problem there is a backup copy of the website on this ftp link:-
ftp://web-master@gwentbeekeepers.co.uk: ... pers.co.uk
Project file: GBKcio-Website.zip
There is also the following files for your information...
EventViewer-ApplicationLog.txt
AppCrash_WebBuilder.exe_aa377cd0a8c8716c48473199362f55e6ab2177_300b22fc_299207f2-bdfd-4b30-9236-9615cdd22f3b

To replicate the issue:
1) Unzip the backup file
2) open the project
3) In site manager, expand the membership pages
4) double click on the forsale page

The Forsale page will be displayed momentarily with the spinning blue circle on the cursor and then the WYSIWYG application will close.

Version details:
WYSIWYG Web Builder (64-bit)
Version 15.4.4 (Jul 10 2020)

Windows 10 Pro
version 1909
OS build: 18363.959

I have tried a number of ways to resolve this issue, but it always results in the appcrash, including:
1) delete the forsale page.
2) Restore from previous backups
3) start a new project and import the other pages from this project
4) changed the directory name containing the images in case it was an image problem.

Any help to resolve this issue would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for the project. I will investigate this tomorrow. It is already late for me and this will take some time to figure out the structure of the project because there are a lot of pages and elements in your project.
I will look at this in the morning.

I think the problem is related to the incorrect use of master pages.
The page uses 'master01' which is defined as master frame (because it a has a content place holder)
However in the page properties of 'forsale' it is used as master page.
Because of this , the page has become corrupt.
Normally, the software is able to fix this automatically. But in this case there are multiple master page so the software cannot figure out what to do.

Thank you...

The forsale page would have had master01 as its master page. Are you saying i also set the forsale page as a master?

OK, from this point...
1) Is there anything I can do to recover the .wbs file and fix the corruption?
or do I re-write the whole website with a new project file to clear this issue?
Everytime I try to select the forsale page the app shuts down.

2) Exactly what did I do wrong to cause this problem and what should I not do to ensure that I don't cause the problem again?

1. I am currently investigating if I can recover your project. This will take some time, possible days.
This is the first time this resulted in a corrupted page so I have not done this before.
2. If you use a 'content place holder' then the Master Page type (in Page Properties) must be set to 'Master frame (requires content place holder)

OK...thank you for your help.
Please do what ever you need to do to recover as much of the project as you can. It is not an issue if you have to delete some of the pages.

I have removed the 'forsale' page from the project.
Can you check if this also works for you?
