Sitemap can be read, but has errors

I have created a site based on one of Pablo's templates but Google's sitemap says it's not a valid URL. I am utterly confused about where the error is and hope one of the forum's geniuses can help.

You have added the google-site-verification code in the wrong place.
It should be between the head tags of Page HTML.

Thanks for that rapid response Pablo, but after making the change, reuploading and checking I still get the same error message.

After uploading again did you do a hard refresh? (browser refresh) using the following: Hold down Ctrl and click F5.

Yes, I did that, but no better.

Did you upload the sitemap to the server? I could not find it...

I did upload the sitemap but have now taken the entire thing down and will rebuild. Thanks for your help though.
