copy paste table cell data, cell to cell

I'm working with a table and I can't seem to copy one cell and paste it to another cell, either within one table or table to table.
This would ideally copy the cell format itself as well as formatted text, similar to spreadsheet in other programs.

Various copy/cntrl-c operation copies the entire table, and I don't see a way to paste "Cell HTML" either as an awkward, workaround step. The goal is to copy paste cell to cell.
Am I missing the obvious?

You can copy data from one cell to another, but not the formatting.
However, you can apply the same formatting to multiple cells like this (from the help):
Select multiple cells -> hold down the SHIFT key and click cell properties.
