Corrupted text

Post by howlettm »

Hello
Since an upgrade (ie. before v16), much of my text within WYSIWYG - on most pages- has become corrupted, with random letters being dropped to a position below the line level. This of course makes it difficult to change or modify. It hasn't bothered me too much until now as I've rarely had to change anything, and the uploaded text is rendered OK in browers. But I now need to deal with it as it's time for some significant changes to the website.
I don't know how it happened, and I can't find a solution to it within WYSIWYG.
I can copy and paste from the text properties on each occasion, but the text format changes when I do so and has to be reset each time (and there's lots of it). I'd be most grateful if anyone knows how to deal with this.
Following the rules, here's the URL to the site, but the problem is not here, it's within the design programe:
https://picturesonline.co.uk/index.html

Many thanks
Mike Howlett

Hi Alan
No, only 'Enable Direct2D rich text rendering' is ticked

Thanks Pablo - interesting article, but having tried all the possibilities that it suggested, it has made no difference. I don't think it's a question of scale or of DPI. However, I've noticed that if I go into the text properties' Style tab and change the font to any of the other listed options, eg Georgia or Verdana, the problem disappears. I can even then go back to the original Arial 12pt bold, and it's still OK. But that means I'd have to do that for each of the 3-400 pages on the site, which is what I was trying to avoid with a global solution.

Thank you for your help.

Maybe you have used a font that is no longer on your computer?

Nope, not that - I've got nine flavours of Arial on this PC!
The other odd thing is that on each page, the corruption starts at some point after the beginning of the text - the first few lines are always OK, and then it's mostly the first letters of each subsequent word that is dropped to a half-line position. Weird!

I think I'm going to have to laboriously change each page to another font.

Thanks anyway Pablo.

...and it's only on text that is wrapped around a picture - all other text throughout the website is not affected.

Under Object Properties (for the text box), the option for Output Format, is it set to Default?

Hello bkjohns
Thanks for your post. Yes it is, although I only found Output format under File/General/Text box. If it's line height you're referring to, the default is apparently to have that listed under text box properties, and changing it only shifts the dropped characters further below the line or up above it!
None of the other options seem appropriate. Strictly speaking, the text is in 'wrapping text' boxes, although removing the wrapped-around object (ie the picture the text is referring to) makes no difference either.
Cheers

If you need further assistance then please share a demo project so I can see all your settings.

Note that I do not need to complete project. I only need a small project with one page and one on more problematic text object, so I can quickly see what you have done.

Hi Pablo, thank you for your offer - I'd be interested to know if you can solve this one.
I have reduced the .wbs file to one or two typical pages in a zip - how do I get it to you? I don't seem to be able to attach it here.
With much of the page formatting missing, I feel it may be of limited value to you however. I'm using the 'opportunity' of this problem for a major revision of the site, so I'll be changing the text manually if you're unable to find the cause of the error. I'm beginning to suspect that the rz-lights off extension may be a causative factor, as when I change the page text to, say, Verdana, the extension disappears off that page, and I've had issues with it ever since it was installed...
Cheers
