Drop down Drawing tools

Every time I click on a frame (etc) it automatically opens a drop down drawing tools menu and has to be closed before I can continue. Is there any way I can stop this as I find it frustrating.

Which 'frame' are you referring to?
And what does the drop down menu look like?
Can you please be more specific?

It is the Quick Access menu bar

The correct name is 'Shape' not frame - sorry

I'm sorry, but it's still not clear to which menu you are referring to.
Can you please describe step by step what you are doing?

I have a filled 'shape' that is used as a background for text and images. I am using wwb17. Unlike the previous version, when I select the 'shape' to view the nodes to resize it, the 'Quick access toolbar ribbon drops down with the drawing tools tab open. I then have to click a blank area to collapse the ribbon before I can make any changes. An unnecessary and frustrating action.

I cannot find anything wrong with the shape. This functionality has not changed recently.
Where do you see this drop down menu? What does the menu look like?
Can you share a DEMO project and describe the exact steps to reproduce this behavior?
