I have just started using a VPN and notice that Publishing is much slower and involves a number of failures that require repeated actions to overcome. I ended up PAUSING the use of the VPN, and everything returned to normal. Not a problem for me, but I wondered if there is anything else I might not be noticing, so I came here to ask the gurus

What you need to remember is when using a VPN then your physical IP changes to the one selected in the VPN. In general you will notice a drop in upload speed due to the routing and encryption used by it. When using a VPN I would suggest using a location closer to home rather using one of another country. There is also other factors such as the server load of the VPN as there will others using the same, try changing the VPNs protocols to see if it improves Wireguard gives good results. I would recommend using a paid rather than a free for security so that there is no data/user logs getting kept on your use.

From the software’s perspective, it makes no difference whether you are using a VPN or not—it simply relies on the system’s IP stack. The software itself does not influence or control the network speed.
