HI,

I not used text file base forum before, just wondering, How well does text based file forum work?

I mean if you had let say thousands of users is it best to opt for a server based (mysql etc) forum or does text file based forum perform just as good even with thousands of users?

I am hesistating wheter to use this forum, reason why is, it is simple and that all i need, i dont require anything fancy etc, but concerned performance may degrade being that it dont store info on a database.

Can you advise me please ?

Thank you,
Mat

Hi,

i wondered this too. my thought would be a potential fatality if say, more than 1 person updated at the same time then surely you might get a writing error especially as the text file would be open exclusively for one person only. ( i cant be 100% correct but am i right in saying a text file can only be updated and written to by one person at a time? )

i personally went for a sql based forum. bbforum is quite good. i linked mine with an inline frame only.

I am not 100% sure of what is said above.
Certainly, there is no replacement of SQL based forums or in that fact any script using SQL...including Shopping Cart, Member system etc. This forum script was selected as installing flat(text based) database is easy for average Webbuilder user.

Hi,

i am talking about file permissions. if i opened a text file on a server and then someone else tried to open it, they would only be able to open it in read-only format as the file is open already. as i said, i wasnt 100% sure but the point was if more than one person tried to write to the file at the same time, then surely there would be either a writing permission issue or slight data corruption as both text entries would be wanting the same position in the file.

i could very easily be wrong here.

regards,

Nigel
