BackBox Image Viewer

BackBox Image Viewer:

Script Site: http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/script2/backbox/

Developer: Rupert Olson

WWB Extension: STAR57 Free for any use!

Yet another Lightbox Image Viewer, I created this just for training myself on the extension.

Description: BackBox is a new image gallery script which displays your pictures in a smooth and easy way. It works on the same principle as "Lightbox.js", though it supports the ability to dismiss the enlarged image when the user clicks the browser "back" button, instead of the default action of going to the previous page. The interface also adds explicit "pervious" and "next" links.

Details: You can have as many Thumbnails on the page as you like, in testing the extension I had 10 thumbnails and 20 photos in each thumbnail and it worked in Microsoft Ie, Firefox, Chrome and Safari!
The Gallery has a function for URL Linking, this does not work of course.

Demo:

IE7 Or Above Fixed IE 6 Png Fix Update 7:20 pm USA Central: Redownload to latest version!!!

***Update** Paragraph extends lightbox, so on use one line in description
Confirmed in Chrome, Safari and Firefox

Hi star57, this is the perfect solution for a web site I am making changes to. The site needs a for sale page where only one photo is on show but allows more photos once you click on it. The slide show is the icing on the cake but :( it seems I can only have it in the page once or the photos appear from the other BackBox show. Is there a way round this. I did notice location in the URL, is that a clue.
Example http://www.schryver-restoration.com/test/

Ok what I believe is happening it that the extension cant define that you need more than one set of images ie "Gallery1 1to10" "Gallery2 1to5" etc it just sees all the images as one Gallery and thats why it outputs 1to15 instead of 1to10 1to5 etc I dont know if there is a work around for this you may need to get a reply from Star about this he may have a solution I did try the extension and I get the same as you did sorry I cant help further....

Hi BaconFries, thanks for testing, it would make a great extension if you could have more than one set of photos. Do you know of any other extension that can do it. This site seems to have it sorted.

Did you try with rename rel="lightbox[slide]" to rel="lightbox[slide1]"

Select the extension again and change ID to:
[slide1] (are than the next 15 images.)

Thanks for that but I think that star57 has a better and smoother look, I just hope that star57 has a solution. It's nice to use extensions as there is less configuration for a novice.

You can try this to know if it works,

1)Insert two slideshows on your page.
2)publisch to your server.

3)Export to HTML (the same page).
4)change in your page with notepad [slide] to [slide1] in de second slideshow.
5)upload the changed page to overwrite the first publisched page.

Eddy I have changed the code, there seems to be a problem with the second BB only showing 1 photo and all photos on the first BB. Please check to see if I have done it as you said.

Ok I think this has sorted it, but it makes it hard to use on a for sale page where items will change on a regular basis.

I wish that the extension could handle it

Maybe sneil69 can make a variable for this in the extension to change slide to slide1 - slide2 ..

Hi all, I seem to have is working ok :D
http://www.schryver-restoration.com/test4/

Just got couple of problems.
1 They dont stay in the same place onced published or previewed. This is where I placed them in WB6

Image

2 In Firefox the text area has no white background.

Can anybody help, this whole thing is driving me crazy
Once sorted it will work well as you can have a single picture on the main page and then show the rest with text. If anybody can think of a different solution I would have a go.

I am sorry that I have not been able to answer your request, please bare with me as I am just getting back to work and getting items done after my fathers passing. So if this is not working for you yet, let me know.
I have not found the fix for Firefox paragraph overlap as instructed in the updates.

Thanks for understanding.

Thanks Everyone.

The firefox issue is within the backbox.css, and I am testing out the issue.
maybe the more experianced users can take a look and see if the can stream line it?

I have updated the demo and you can check FF and others.

I think you have to use the XHTML doctype .

From the original demo page.
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en">

Hi Eddy, this is a great extension I just hope it can be sorted. I have no idea what to do with a XHTML doctype is so lets hope someone does.

I just wanted to say what a great forum this is, I am quite a newcomer but feel very happy to take part with my novice skills. Thanks to all who have helped me over the past 18 months :D
