Anything Slider (free)

I just added "Anything Slider" to the extensions under the Miscellaneous section. Available from here.

This extension provides a slider that can take any type of content - text, images, iframes etc.

Working demo available here.

@Patr100,

Hmmm, it was working. Something must be affecting that so I'll look into it. Will post back here when I find what's happened. :(

Do you mean the images either side of the panels or the tabs at the bottom?

I meant either side of the panels but it would also be good if the bottom tabs etc could be optional.

@Patr100

The original version does use three separate CSS files to allow themes for the slider but I have not incorporated these (yet) but as a temporary measure you can replace the image used for these two (actually four) buttons by creating a different arrows-default.png file. This is a CSS sprite, so if you create an image of identical proportions you could have a different set of arrows. Be aware that the sprite needs to be identical as CSS parameters control which image is seen. Look in the /anything/images/ folder.

The tabs at the bottom come with this version by default. When I add in the two other versions (see the original) the tabs will not appear on one of them.

Found the problem. I had commented out some JavaScript while testing something and later deleted the commented out code by accident! Doh! However, I have somehow introduced another problem with the textSlide's formatting which I am investigating now.

At the moment the textSlide will now take all the Entry options correctly :) but as it stands now the formatting (padding on the right) has somehow been affected by something :(. Will post again when fixed!

New version just uploaded.

Update Notes
07/June/11 :
[a] Fixed problem with textSlides not accepting Entry Effects.
Removed all 'fade' Entry Effects as these were affecting various formatting options.
[c] Added .uwbx version.

Thanks I just installed the new version but it's different and now I can't see any fade effect options to apply at all?

Yup - the FADE options were destroying several formatting elements. No idea how or why, so I dumped them. You can still add a class="fade" to an image inside a panel as in my demo (see slide labelled text + image).

A great pity.
Unfortunately testing now with some text changing entry effect is still not making any difference at all?
and can you explain what easeout quad.quart.sine etc are actually do in practice because again I can't see any diffference either when I preview.

@Patr100,
Yes, losing FADE is a pity but with it the rest of the slides stop working. Maybe someone who knows jQuery better than me can pitch in with an idea. Happy to make my extension file available to anyone who wants to experiment.

I've tested textSlide Entry Effects and they do all work. Suggest you clear out your published files folder and do a clean publish or maybe hit CTRL+F5 to ensure the new CSS and JS files are read by the browser.

jQuery Easing options are quite subtle. I also found very little difference between some of these options. You can Google "jQuery Easing" to see several sites that demonstrate the differences:

I've downloaded the extension but the downloaded file is named "Anything_slider" without any "file extension". I tried manually adding a "file extension" but it doesn't install. Could you replace the file to download?

Apologies. Filename corrected.
You could have just renamed the file by adding .zip to the file - but I've fixed that now.

I have updated the extension to allow the panel background color change. The default setting is TRANSPARENT but once you change this to set a colour you will be unable to go back to a transparent setting.

Thanks!

Just as a matter of interest there have been 1887 downloads, so does that mean there are 1887 websites using this extension? lol...

I doubt that but I'd be interested to see sites that have used it, as I am sure others will. So please post a URL for any sites currently using Anything Slider

Hi Adendum,

I've placed some small montage panorama images into the slider at the top of my homepage.

Check it out:

p.s.....Thanks for creating the extension :)

Hi Adendum,

I've noticed that the text slider blurs the text when viewing with IE8. All the other browsers seem ok.

JimmyJazz,

Nice to see the extension in use.

The fuzzy text in IE8 is odd because I don't see that in my demo in IE and there's a lot more text in that. I do see the problem in your site however, so I guess there must be something going on. It looks like you are using Arial, have yo tried changing the font and see if that cures it?

Just changed the font to Verdana, it has helped the blurred text but there has been another side effect.

All the text should be bold. It is on the image slider images but not on the text slider images.

This is only browsing with IE8.

Hi,

Both those extensions are ones I have created. Can you post a URL for each page so I can take a look. Or alternatively email me your WB file so I can see all your settings. You can contact me via my web site's contact page. Once I have your email I will email you back so you can send a file to me. Sadly, no PM system here.

Thinking about your problem again I suspect it is something to do with WHERE your images are located. I refer you back to the help PDF..."Because all panel data is entered using HTML Textbox and that data is parsed with XML to create your final page all URL's (and all HTML code) becomes hard coded. This means that an image link will point to your local folder and when the page is uploaded to the server the image cannot be seen. The workaround is fairly simple and requires you to :-
[a] upload the image to the server and
reference the image as http://www.thedomain.com/images/thisimage.jpg
"

Check again and let me know - but seeing your file would make it easier to see what's going wrong for you.

Apologies to everyone using this extension.

In a recent renaming exercise (to comply with the rules) it appears the edited version stopped publishing all the support files (css, .js and default images). This has now been fixed and an updated version is available from the original location - http://extensions.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/

NOTE: In the renaming exercise the extension name was changed from Anything Slider.wbx to AnythingSlider.wbx as a result if you have already updated the extension - sadly - any pages created using the earlier version (with the space between the name) will not work as WB will be looking for a differently named extension. Sorry - if I realised that before I wouldn't have changed the name!

10/11/11 : Having only realised I could do this yesterday (doh!) I have modified this extension (and all my extensions - see list below) so that the live rendering of the extension in design view is greatly improved. In many cases the design view will take on a background colour you set in the extension properties.

Updates available from the WWB extensions site and my own demo site. Remember to check out the extensions listed below.

Automated ToolTip
Directory Listing
Elastic Thumbnail Menu
Image Information Panels
Image Swap Menu
Kick-Butt-Mega-Menu
Orbit Slider
Photo Info
Simple Horizontal Accordion
Slide Down Box Menu
Stacked Images
tab Slide Out

I never thanked you for taking this extension request on. It is absolutely fantastic! Your incorporation of the HTML Textbox was brilliant and keeps everything clean. As soon as I can get permission to submit a live site I will do so. I cannot thank you enough for this extension and the others you have generously shared.

Thanks protectourlands. Funnily enough I took another look at it the other day and it was one of my 'early' extensions and I think I might re-visit soon and see if I can make it the fully loaded version!

<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>

i noticed your site has no scrollbars even when you resize the window smaller.
how did you do this?

iamafireman,

Not all pages, only those I don't want them.

In the html for each page (or master frame page, as I use) inside body tag put

Code: Select all

style="overflow: hidden"
