The extension allows you to specify 2 or 3 drop down boxes that are populated from a datafile. Options selected in one drop-down box determine the options used to fill the next drop-down box.
Chained Selects1.jpg
You can:-
* have 2 or 3 drop down boxes,
* fully customise how each of the drop downs are styled,
* reveal each drop down after a selection is made or have all drop downs available,

You will:-
* benefit from fully reading the help PDF supplied and also studying the pages seen in the demo.
* be required to edit a data file that contains the names and links for each drop down.
* need to rename the datafile as the extension publishes two sample data files on each publish.

Note: This extension is based on original code by Xin Yang and is not the older version used by Dynamic Drive. Full permission from Xin Yang has been given to create this extension and all users can use these scripts for personal or commercial projects.

Have fun - but read the help file first!!!!!!!!!!

Available from the main extension site or from my demo site.

Thinking about it I doubt it as the extension IS already a form.

yes you are right, so how basically these will be getting benefits from in dynamic way i mean, what you can get out of them? other than giving links based on demands... this is very powerful if you are validating form data!! i think

This extension is great in simulating a dynamic page with query box. If it could be adapted/developed into it's links been able to open in inline frames just as inbuilt WWB extensions, this would open many possibilities.

Thanks a lot for bringing this one to us.

Islander,

Sorry not sure what you are saying or asking here. Please clarify.

Hello Adendum,

What I meant was to develop this extension, which has great potential in my opinion, and allow the links to "open in another window or iframe" as is possible with menus links within WWB.

I also notice the following on a test I did: If you select Box Reveal: True, then the second box will appear right under the first box. When it's set to False, the boxes align horizontally. Is there any setting in the .js file that defines the alignment of these boxes?

Islander,

Firstly the links can open in an iFrame - take a closer look at the demo and you'll see EVERYTHING is opening in and iFrame.

The alignment of the drop downs is handled by the size you draw the extension. Draw it wider and you get a horizontal presentation. Draw it narrower and you get vertical.

I tried to use the Chained Selects on the same page as a Form. In Internet Explorer, the Chained Selects doesn't display correctly whereas in other browsers everything OK.

Chained Selects is also a form. You can't run two forms on one page.

Xin Yang the original author of Chained Selects has relaunched his website and updated the files:

http://www.yxscripts.com/

This extension is a game changer when it comes to presenting endless links compacted into 2 or 3 drop downlist, magnificently simplified and brought to WWB by Addedum. I just wish it could be made more aesthetic and customizable in its button layouts.

The only difference in the new script is "enabled OPTGROUP support in Mac ... 2015-10-19" so not worthy of a re-work from my side.
