The use of Free Scripts

With all the discussion about "Free" scripts being used to make extensions and then ask for a payment I decided to email one of the "Free" scripts authors FatFreeCart one of the scripts in Question....and I have had a reply...this is from the email recieved.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Fortunately, it appears that developer is not selling a copy of our actual software, but rather selling a plugin for their own site-builder/CMS platform to help manage FatFreeCart.com button codes and add those buttons to pages built in that platform -- i.e., users of this plugin would actually be using our own FatFreeCart.com free service as-is, and the plugin just makes it easier to add FatFreeCart buttons to a page, rather than having to paste and configure the FatFreeCart.com button codes manually in raw HTML code:http://www.fatfreecart.com/code.html
This is somewhat similar in principle to the WP E-junkie plugin for WordPress:http://wpejunkie.com/ If you have any further questions on this topic or additional details to provide, please simply reply to this message to help maintain your chain of correspondence in our records. Best regards,--

So it seems that they have no real issues with this being "wrapped" and made into a extenion and then to be sold...

BF can explain this then

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=34416

At the end of the day I really don't care but the fact of the matter is what makes this forum and community so good is people chipping and helping each other (Yourself being a prime example of going out of your way to help) I think make money on something is genuinely commercial like the link above.

Anyway Good luck with Bourin and all the guys who put time and effort. That was my 2p's worth.

To just clear this, I too disagree on the fact that bourin has taken a free script and is using for his own profit, if a script is free then it should remain free, but if you decide to charge a fee just for the time spent build then you should expect some slack for doing so.

Regarding the extension made by (me) viewtopic.php?f=53&t=34416 for my understanding is that he approached the original auther of Vibracart and offered/suggested that he (me) would build this as an extension for users of WYSIWYG and that it would be sold under what is known as a affilate licence, so for each Vibracart extension that me sells he will get a commisssion on it. This means that the script isnt getting used without cosent from the original auther and that they would also benefit from any sales of the extension through me.

Sorry to clarify one thing I am happy with ME
Selling his ext as it is a commercial venture and
There is no issue there. I only used him to highlight
Something that is commercial to begin with
Wrapped or not.

The development from extensions based on COM-Server WWB interface via C++ project is a complex project and require a lot of time. The result is an easy to use GUI, but:

- you needs knowledge into the C++ programming
- you needs knowledge into the Windows MFC programming
- you needs knowledge into C++ -> HTML, PHP parser programming
- you needs knowledge into COM-Server login/logout Windows handling
- ...

And we would like provide a good longtime support for our products. This produce costs, so it's clear for us that we demand an fair obulus for our work.

I am sure you put a lot of work and effort.I never doubt this but for this much effort, you should at least try making an extension with the PRO version

I for one would buy this.
