How can I get my links to work.

Hi good people,

I hope you will be able to point me in the right direction with this problem.

I have used a "Layer" on a master page for the left hand side of the screen as it is the same on all my pages within my web site.

But I cannot get the links to work which have been set up correctly for any specific image.

For example the main logo, if clicked before using a layer took me back to the homepage, now it wont do anything when I click on it, when used on a layer.

I have done a few things but it does not seemed to have worked.

I have set the Layer to the back, so it is not in front of the images.

I have set the Layer as a footer/header mode in the properties.

What am I doing wrong and can you even set links when using a layer or not.

Here is the master page that I have uploaded >>

https://www.ocean-bay-beach-resort.com/master

And here is the page that I uploaded with the Layer in place >>

https://www.ocean-bay-beach-resort.com/studio-room

The Footer is working and the links are working just fine at the bottom of the page in any of the break points.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

I would just like to add that some of the links are internal while some are also external. None of them work however unlike they do on all my other pages in my website that I have not used a Layer on yet.

Thanks,

The layer is on top of all other objects so that is why the link no longer work.

Hi Pablo,

Thank you for your reply.

This is what I also thought I was doing wrong initially, so I made sure the layer was at the back, and then clicked on all the images with links and brought them forward, so that they were in front of the layer, but it still does not seem to work.

On the Master page, when I have sent the layer to the back and the images with links to the front and preview the page, I cannot see the images at all. All I see is the layer.

The images are inside the parent layer menu under the "Object Manager".

I have made sure that it is set too footer/header as I read somewhere that is what it should be set at to make the links work.

I know I am missing something very simple here, or over looking something, but I cannot seem to figure it out.

Have I missed a setting or something similar.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated by anyone.

Thank you.

Just to make it easier to what I am doing wrong, I have uploaded the web page file to MediaFire here >>

http://www.mediafire.com/file/jlczs3jfd ... m.wbs/file

And here is the link with the pictures for that web page. (Not sure if you need this or not) >>

Thank you.

I am coming to the conclusion that I do not even need a layer on the master page.

Can I not just put the objects individually on the master page in their respective breakpoints and in their correct positioning and then when i start a new page, or update an existing page, just go to page properties, then miscellaneous and then under Master page, just select the master page and set it as a master page and not a master frame. This would simplify things.

I am still playing around with the master page and layer, but I think I can just add the objects with the links on the page without even using a layer.

Let me know if I am correct.

Thank you.

In objects 'WhatsApp' and 'whatsapp-320' you have added a link which contains a quote, this breaks the HTML code.
Also the code in "FB_SDK_File" is incorrect.
These errors make the entire page invalid and therefor the results will be 'random'.

Hi Pablo,

Thank you for your reply.

However I am not sure about your conclusions.

The Whatsapp-320 and Whatsapp objects, the link inside the two objects is correct and both objects work as they should and have always done so, I have no issues with them at all. When you click or tap on them, providing you have WhatsApp installed on your computer or phone, it will automatically open the app up and dial our WhatsApp number.

Also the "FB_SDK_File" is working correctly too, in conjunction with the other code snippet "FB Widget" as you can see on at the homepage >>

www.ocean-bay-beach-resort.com

These have been in place for the past 6 months or so. With no problems.

It is only now that I thought i needed to put a Layer on the master page to make it easier to update my whole site if I needed too, but I do now believe that I can just add the objects on the left hand side of the screen, individually and put them in place per break point, and thus I will not need a layer.

I will be testing this theory today on my website.

I do appreciate your help and feedback Pablo and everyone else on here, but on this particular occasion I know that the coding is working fine and that the link inside the WhatsApp object is working as it should be.

I will do away with the layer on this occasion and put the objects in place individually and will let you all know if that worked for me later today.

Thank you again Pablo for your feedback, as always it is very appreciative,

I'm sorry to disagree with you, but my suggestions are valid.
If you add incorrect code to the page then this will affect the entire and the results will be random.
Basically, you were just lucky that it previously worked.

Invalid links:

Invalid code:

There may be other issues, but as you know I cannot provide support on custom coding.

I have to agree with Pablo there is invalid code that will break the page. Just because it might have worked or works doesn't make it correct. See the images below with invalid code circled...

There's possibly more that is invalid but that is for yourself to check....

I have also just ran your site/page through W3C validation and the result shows the errors we both highlight....

Hi Pablo and BaconFries,

Well I am not about to argue with you two big guns, if you say it is wrong, then it is, but it is working as it should be as it is currently coded, rightly or wrongly it is working. So as I say "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

The initial post was about how I can get my links to work inside a Layer. As it turns out though, I did not need to put a layer in the master page, I only needed to put the objects, text and links on the master page individually and in the correct position according too what breakpoint I was working on, and when I did that I was still able to click on the objects with the links and they worked, no matter what page I was viewing in the web site itself. So all good.

I have also learnt that I can have more than one master page, as some pages have the same objects in the same place, which would make it easier to manage. That is my next project.

I do thank you for your feedback. I am learning code, and can understand the points you both made, but as i said it is working as it stands. And I will be using this validator.w3.org link that you showed me in the future BaconFries.

You never stop learning no matter who you are.

Thank you to you both, until next time.
