Images and borders

Hi,
I have read that some images won't accept the addition of borders, which, personally I think, makes them look smarter.
A good number of the images I use, do accept Box Shadow 7, whether I'm using them in the default setting , or the 320 mobile size.
When I initially click on these images, the first screen shows 'Borde Styler' on the left - set to 'Image' - and 'Settings' opposite. Clicking 'Settings' gives me direct access to all manner of border types I can add.
However, there are are other images which, when I first click, it presents differently with four options: Style-Colour-Radius-Width, but seemingly no option to add the variety of borders with other images seem to readily accept. Any ideas, please?
