Layout tips

Post by Nitrid-2 »

layout and what is the optimum sizing to look good is something I haven't yet got a full grasp of.

I've watched many of the videos on layers and layout grids and sizing of webpages what I got from it was rightly or wrongly is that 1920 x 1080 is about the standard.
However it just doesn't look right to me. this is the latest attempt (work in progress) but just doesn't seem to be viewer friendly.

I have looked through many of the websites you members have created and frankly most of them look awesome.
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers!

I always make my default view starting at 1920px and go down from there as I have a large monitor. The breakpoints you choose will be dependent in large part by your design and where your layout 'breaks' (or doesn't look good) and a layout change is needed.

Maybe this video will help also.

If you are not going to use layout grids which automatically resize, then you should be using breakpoints. I've written a template which you are welcome to use and modify - it may help as a starter.

Have a look here viewtopic.php?f=41&t=88171

Like Crispy said 1920 is good for the largest size. But if you run analytics you will probably find 56-70% of users are viewing on mobile.
Found this video helpful on breakpoints:
