Moving items to new layer

Moving items to new layer

The help pages say that by drag and dropping items onto a layer the items become part of that layer. My problem is I have added a layer after the items where added to an existing layer and now I want to move these items to the new layer. I have tried cut and paste but doesn't really work. How can I do this???

Just click on the objects in the layer and drag them to the new layer.
