Does image file names need to be unique?

Hi!
When I publish to the web, all my images are copied to the same directory "images", although I have them on different directories in my computer. This forces me to have unique filenames for all images all over my website, which is a big drawback. Is there any setting so that I do not need to use unique filenames? If not, Wysiwyg should fix this problem.

I'm curious, why wouldn't you want unique names for images? To me, having 20 images all named boat.jpg doesn't make sense plus it is better for SEO if they have short (5 words or less) descriptive names.

A requirement of having unique names of files is a big drawback in web development and other development too. If you use a lot of files, taken from a lot of sources, you need to make sure that all have unique names. This is why directories are invented. Assume e.g. that alla windows files were put in one singel directory, so that they all needed unique names!! Good luck to the developers to see to that all those hundred of thousand of files did have unique names!

This is the information I needed and I assumed that WWB had a way to solve this problems, since otherwise it would have caused problems for many users with lot a files!
