"Animation > Copy" what is the purpose of this?
I want to have the same animation on two similar objects...so I copy it and open the second object but there is no way to paste it.

For that you would have to press shift then click on copy after that go to the new object you want to animate and click on animation then most importantly press shift then click on add.
Note: That you can only copy a single row of animation. And in terms of transitions it is also the same. I wish there multiple object selection available for the shift trick but that's a feature we should suggest.
See also 'SHIFT-tricks' in the help

The 'copy' button can be used to make a copy of the selected animation.
For example, if you want to have several animation on the same object but with different parameters.
Also, the 'Copy' button can be used to copy ALL animations from one object to another.
- Hold the SHIFT key, while clicking 'Copy'
- Then go to the properties of the other object
- Hold the SHIFT key, while clicking 'Add'
Note that this only works within the same project. It also works for transitions.
