Photography Website

I'm working on a new website to showcase some photos I've taken in Berlin music venues. It is deliberately simple and hopefully easy to navigate though I'm wondering if I should add a few back/top of page/home buttons. I think most people know how to do this without such things these days:

Nice work Seanf. I like it. Just one small thing... when navigating down some of the photo librarys with a lot of photos, you must slide all the way to the top for link back to main page. Maybe som small navigation menu or link when scrolling down...?

Yes I think I will add a floating 'to the top' and maybe a 'home page' button that stays at the bottom of each page to make things easier for visitors.

Thanks

Sean

I think when hovering over the image has a transition of smoothly poping it up, just alike that it would be better if it had a transition when the mouse is taken away from the pictures it would smoothly do a transition too. Other than that nice and simple site.

I like the site.

A comment on the pics...

I also shoot raw with my Nikon, but I do process with photoshop because it has excellent control over all of the picture elements. You may already be using it. Some of your photos, which are of course, very, very good, could use a little bit of help in the shadows to bring out the details that are hidden in there. Then, when you save them out for publishing, save them as PNG. All that detail that you get from shooting RAW won't be as good in JPG on the site as it would be in PNG.

There is a lot you could do with the size and I personally feel you have killed the potentail with adding so much text to the begining of the page - If it is a photography site, then let the photos do the talking and leave the tet for your about section. Site lacks "soul" and "creativity"

My opinion of course!

I’ve just seen these new comments, good to know that people are still looking! My responses:

Developer - I take all photos in RAW and use Adobe Camera Raw to make lighting adjustments. It’s very easy to get carried away with shadows, my opinion is that just because you can lighten them, doesn’t mean you should. I’m not a fan of overblown HDR style photos, I like them to show the venue as it is, and most of these places were dark. That doesn’t mean I’ve done nothing, if you saw some SOOC shots, this would show the difference. As for PNG, I only use these when I need some transparency in the photos (for example, on my chilli sauce site). PNG file size is much larger than a JPG equivalent and not really necessary as I want the site to load quickly and ‘absolute’ quality is not required. I send full-res versions to the artists if they ask for them.

Zinc - there may be a little too much text at the top, but this is deliberate as I want to keep the site as simple as possible, without using different sections. This might change in future of course.

Thanks again for your comments.

Sean

Hi guys. I also shoot raw. Use to convert to jpg for the web, but since almost 2 years back I convert to .webp format, its stunning how good and in most cases the photos are not more than 20% in size referring to jpg. The webpages loads flashing rapid.

Hi there

I'd like to make the minor suggestion of naming the bookmarks. #HeaderLayoutGrid may be accurate however #top or #home would be a little more user friendly ✌️
