Dashes - en dash, em dash, hypen, figure dash

Post by onlye »

I added the services for a proofreader for my websites. I am trying to follow her guidance regarding dashes and seeking feedback from my fellow developers. I use the - (the key from the keyboard that includes the lower_dash as a shift), but I am being schooled on en dash, em dash, and figure dash. It doesn't look like the em or en dash have a regular keyboard key so they require a code.

My question is do any of you use the code to make sure you are using the proper dash type? If so, are you editing the code or how do you enter an en dash or em dash in the text object of Wizzy?

Thanks for the feedback.

Some useful info regarding this. I answered this a while back for another user post no longer available but I wrote just type the following after the text in a text object — – or – —

Thank you for the reply. I tried inserting the — – between two days in a date in a text object in Wizzy and when I preview I just see the — –

June 15— –June 17 in Wizzy Text yields below in the preview
June 15— –June 17

Am I missing something? Gee, it is so much easier to be illiterate.

If you want to insert entities in text then you will need to enable 'do not encode HTML characters' in the text's properties.

Thanks, Pablo. That did it. Does that property apply to just the text object I changed?
