Moving old outdated webpage to wysiwyg.

Post by UglyJohn »

Please be kind for I'm doing my best to learn, at 72 yrs old I'm not as sharpest tool in the tool box these days... :D I created and maintained a webpage for our old guy motorcycle club for years, but the web editor, WebPlus x7, has been discontinued for many years and it's barely working. I've had to remove many pages due to security and eCommerce pages just stopped working. I was wondering what would be the easiest route to transfer to WYSIWYG18. I'm all for a full refresh if there is a "Club" template to work off of, but so far I've found none. The web page I want to move is located at UGLYmc.org Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I used to be a Serif WebPlus user before moving to WWB a few years ago. The major difference to me was learning to use responsive layout objects instead of a true wysiwyg program like Serif. It was well worth the time it took to learn WWB. No more multiple layouts to accommodate phones or odd sized monitors. Everything auto adjust to the users screen size.

The best I came up with was to play with various templates (on the WWB site they are free, or you can get some from 3rd party sites) to get a feel for how it works. In the end the only things that came over from Serif were the photos and copy/pasted text. So basically I started from scratch and kept it simple at first and then as my knowledge of WWB grew I incorporated some of the more advanced features. I'm still not a web designer by any means but it is certainly doable to move from Serif to WWB without too much hair loss. Once you get the idea of the flow of working with WWB it becomes easy to do what you desire and if you get stuck along the way this forum is a gold mine of info and Pablo (creator of WWB) is second to none in responding to your request for help. Jump in with both feet and never look back. Oh, and I'm 72 next month so WWB isn't beyond us old guys.

Good luck and welcome to the WWB world.

It will be a rebuild from scratch. I don't know that a "club template" is really needed or would help that much. From what I can see there are just a few pages. I would use one of the paid calendar event extensions for your calendar section. Just keep it simple to get it started. Watch a few of the intro videos on YouTube.

I'd be happy to do a screen share to get you started.

Looking through the already available templates Templates 2022/2023 (for WYSIWYG Web Builder 18 and newer). I don't see any related to "Club(s)" As already mentioned it is generally best to start afresh so to ensure you have no issues.
Starting points of interest for best use of what layout to use
Which layout mode should I choose?

Like you, I came from Web Plus. And I started again. It's a steep learning curve to start with but it soon becomes very familiar.

Also like you, my age starts with a 7....

This free template viewtopic.php?t=93336 may help. I am happy to provide any help you need regarding it.
