I updated wb19 yesterday, I have a problem when I have the vpn running, the wb19 app is hung up looking for updates. When I turn off update checks on startup, things are ok. I have a screenshot of the message received..
The link to it is

Possible problem: a new version needs to be whitelisted (again) in your av/firewall software.

This is most likely a firewall related issue.
To solve this, add webbuilder.exe to the exception list.

I added webuilder.exe to the firewall list but this did not help. The error occurs when the program checks for updates on stratup, while nordvpn is active. If I pause the vpm, it checks for updates ok.

This seems to be the url the "check for updates" is looking for
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/version.php
If I enter this into the browser search bar is get 19.1.1.1 which causes no issues. However, in webuilder19, on startup, the screen halts but will resume after it times out (I assume)... If I disable the " "check for updates" on starup, then webbuilder starts ok, just doesn't check for updates.

I still think this is is network related issue.
Because all what 'check for updates' does is send an http request to the specified URL. So, it is most likely blocked somewhere.
Also note that functionality has not been changed recently. This has been working like this for many years,.

Did you update your firewall/av permission with the new version? It may think it's a different program if you haven't.

It works for all other users, including yourself if you do not use VPN.
So, that makes it unlikely this is an issue in the software.

It worked the day before yesterday.....

I did not change anything in the software related to checking for updates. This functionality has been working like this for years. It the same as in previous versions.
Maybe your VPN or firewall has changed?
For the software this is a simple https request. The software does not know that there is a VPN. It's just an IP connection to the server.
So, if it works without VPN there must be something that blocks the connection.
Or maybe the domain is blocked on the VPN side?
Also, does any of the other built-in online tools work?
For example, does the Extensions Manager work via VPN?

The extension manager fails as well... so if the firewall is the issue, then why does
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/version.php
return the correct version but can't seem to do it on startup.... publishing fails as well
I know, the easy answer is to just not use a vpn... but it worked before, why not now

You are looking at this link through your browser. If your browser works so will this version number display in the browser window.

Yes, in a previous post I said that if I send the link from a browser, it returns 19.1.1.1
I tried it again and it's the same
Here is the message from the failed publish.... the extension manager also fails

This also indicates the network is blocked for the application.
Again, I would like to note that none of these features have been changed.
Only you can solve this because for you it works on the same computer without a VPN. So, there must be a different in how your network behaves in both cases.
The software works the same no matter if you are using a VPN or not.

The version link was done while the vpn is enabled...why is there a difference simply by using your software... one would believe if the network blocked it using wwb19, then it would also block it using a browser... not the case

Maybe your browser is on an application 'safe list', and WWB is not.

I tested in in Firefox, Brave and Edge, they all return the same 19.1.1.1 response.

I am not referring to access to the website.
I mean that the software itself is blocked. The log indicates that the software cannot use your network at all.
Not only it cannot access the WWB website, but it looks like none of the network functionality works when VPN is enabled.
So, you will need to find out what is preventing the sofwtar from using your network.

I added C:\Program Files\WYSIWYG Web Builder 19\WebBuilder.exe
to the firewall exception list...is the syntax correct?
Re: issue since last update

If that is where you have installed the software then that seem to be correct.
However each firewall and virus scanner has different options. In some firewall you may have to add it to multiple exceptions lists.

Update:
I have contacted a network expert about this issue and it may somehow be related to your dns host file.
Can you please download this modified version and let me know if this solves the issue for you?

Thanks, I applied the update but it did not fix the issue..Like you say, it's likely on nordvpn somewhere as once I pause the vpn, all functionality returns to webbuilder .... this would also, at least to me, say the the win11 firewall is also not the problem. Once again, thanks for helping

va3ts: I see your using Nord VPN. Leave Nord active but try pausing Web protection. If WB then works correctly .. go to "View activity and customize" in Nord (text link under Web Protection) and make sure DNS filtering is turned off. I use Nord VPN and have no problem with WB working.

For Pablo, the error is the same as before and for TomB, yes I have already disabled the web protection. I sent email to nordvpn so we'll see what they say

Did you try the new 'NoDnsHostsFile' option?
Did you try both 1 and 0 as a value?

This is something I am not familiar with ie: registry keys. I can access the registry editor and can follow the path down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pablo Software Solutions\WYSIWYG Web Builder 19\Settings\ but the NoDnsHostsFile part is not there... I would not like to do the wrong this and make it worse so do I use the registry editor and use the "file import" or "edit new" ...

You will need to add the item yourself.
This may be helpful

Note that I basically have added this option only for you. Because it works for all other user. So, that is why its' not a 'toggle' in the software settings.

I was able to perform the registry key changes you recommended. I was not successful with either the 1 or 0 values. This issue also prevents the program from checking for updates and as well, verifying links... so thanks for your help, but it doesn't look hopeful. I'll just turn off the vpn..best regards Tom

My expert was here today and we tried several things to hopefully alleviate the issue but regardless the issue persists. Like me, he had a hard time with the fact that the for example the checking of the lastest version can be done without error using a browser, but using the webbuilder program, it hangs up and cannot find the webpage
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/version.php ... his opinion is that the issue is with the wb19 and not the vpn as for reasons already stated. We also added exceptions to our adguard home server without change. We added wildcards so it would handle subdomains and pages after it. have a good weekend..regards

In my opinion, something on your computer is preventing the software from using your Internet connection when VPN is active.
Juts because the connection goes via VPN does not change anything for the software itself. The functionality of the software does not change when you use VPN.

Correct, this indicates that somehow the http / ip connection is blocked for the software (and not the the website!) when using VPN.
The software accesses the URL exactly the same way. No matter if you use VPN of not. It is just an IP connection.
Maybe the VPN has some kind of exception list for software apps?
Also, you wrote that this started to happen since the last update.
Does this mean that it still works when you use an older version?

Pablo with most vpn's there is a feature to allow/disallow certain apps to bypass the vpn. With Nord the feature is called Split Tunneling. In theory you can have it running in the background but still allow choosen apps not to use. It could be that you need to set it again to bypass when any previous selected software is updated similar to how you have to add to the whitelist of a Firewall or AV again when the software is updated.
@va3ts maybe this will help

@va3ts ...
Tom,
Silly question perhaps. But if you are located in ShallowLake Ontario, and your web hosting company StormWeb.ca is in Canada, why would you even need a VPN? Typically, a VPN is used to cloak, or masquerade a client in order to access services not normally available in your location, or country.
Since you are 'local' to your webhosting company, I'm not sure why you need this extra network layer.
