Duplicate root and index pages on the server

Post by JohnFab »

I'm guessing I've done something wrong? I seem to have two identicle index pages on the server, causing SEO errors.

and

I can't seem to figure this one out.
Any help would be appreciated.

I do not see 2 identical index pages. It is the same page. If you type just the url and nothing else it loads your index page (which generally is index.html). It just doesn't show the page name index.html. It is possible to have other suffixes like index.htm and index.php which could cause issues but neither of these are on your server.

Thanks crispy68! Your explanation was good and makes sense. I'm still at a loss to understand why I'm getting SEO errors stating that I have a duplicate index page?

Bing Webmaster Tools
Many pages with identical titles
Pages with this error
https://johnseasycrockpot.com/index.html
http://www.johnseasycrockpot.com/

They are the same page, but the crawlers are seeing them as two seperate identicle pages.

Is there something I can do about this problem?

I do not think this is directly related to the software, but this may be helpful:
