One Project, Two Versions WB, Maintain Both

I'm not a web designer, I use WB for just my personal site which is rather extensive with many pages. I have my site built using WB17 which I make small changes to on a regular basis. I've also upgraded, twice, to WB18 (never used) and now WB19. I plan to do a sitewide refresh however, my understanding is that once I open the project in WB19, I'll need to update the entire site as a whole; I will no longer be able to make those minor changes to the WB17 project and upload, for instance, just a single page correction.
I don't want to update the entire site until I'm sure everything is working as intended.
The question... Can I keep WB17 site/project as is, import pages one by one to WB19, build the "refreshed" site using a different name and continue to work with WB17 to make my minor changes until I'm finished? OR...do I rename the WB17 project and simply open the original name with WB19 and still be able to make my changes in WB17? What is the best way to keep both versions going at the same time since all of the extensions are in a single folder?
Hoping what I'm attempting to describe makes some sense.
