Master Pages

I'm about to make a few site adjustments and I had one question.

If the master page (header/footer) has index, follow - but the page itself has no index, no follow - the master page overwrites the page?

So in this case, the end result would be index, follow - correct?

The master page merges to create the pages when you publish. I believe your setting need to be on the actual pages; index, contact, etc... You would set the master page not to follow, not to publish, and not include in site map.

Thanks so much for that. I have always wondered. I figured that it should not be on the sitemap or navigation but not sure of others.
Or did I miss it in the instructions despite searching? What does Pablo say to this?

onlye is correct. The robot.txt settings need to be set for each page individually. The master page only acts as 'background' for the page.
