Site and Page Variables

Is there a list of the built in $SITE_VARIABLES$ and $PAGE_VARIABLES$ that are available? I've been looking but most searches bring up everything with "page" and "site" and "variable" even if I surround the phrases with quotation marks. I've been looking for a while and it's driving me to distraction since it seems like a simple list with descriptions (and, hint, hint, even maybe some examples of using them in a web page) would definitely be something that should exist.

Needless to say, I'm very interested in this.
