I bet I'm going to feel like a numbskull once I find the answer.

I CANNOT change the background of a page, ANY page.
The option is there,Page Properties - Style.
I can choose, a solid colour, a texture, a pattern whatever.
Click OK.

Page still pristine white!

Please help - I KNOW I am doing something wrong.

Page Properties--> Style--> Background--> Mode--> select as 'Solid' select the colour--> Save

That's what I do!

Right Click Page1
Go to 'Style' Tab
Select Background - Mode - Solid or Pattern or Texture, anything.
Select a colour - Purple this time
Click OK
Page is white

Found it!!!!!

UNTICKED 'Use theme for background' o idea how it got ticked!

All is well, this is a great program!
