*** SOLVED *** Continual sitemap.xml problem after upload ??

Post by Trugmaker »

Every time I upload my site, or a changed page, sitemap.xml uploads incorrect, so creates (or repeats) an error regarding indexing. Line 8 every time becomes - <xhtml:link rel="alternate" href="" hreflang="en-gb"/>
but the correct line should be - <xhtml:link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-gb" href="https://www.trugmakers.co.uk/"/>
This means, after every upload, I have to use my host's site manager to alter or correct the line. Why is this, and how can I change it.

You can configure the URL in the properties of the sitemap.

I understand that, and have already configured it, but why does the sitemap create the following:-
Every time I upload my site or a changed page, sitemap.xml uploads incorrectly, creating the error.

The uploaded Line 8 becomes - <xhtml:link rel="alternate" href="" hreflang="en-gb"/>
When the correct line should be - <xhtml:link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-gb" href="https://www.trugmakers.co.uk/"/>
Which means after every upload, I have to go to my hosting - File manager - then change Line 8

I am not aware of any issues with the sitemap. So, this is most likely a configuration issue.
If you need help with this, then please share a DEMO project (not the full project, no extensions) and describe the exact steps to reproduce the issue.

For further details about how to share a project file, please see this FAQ:

After explaining the problem to AI, it said that there is a glitch in the WWB upload ???
To test once more, I uploaded my site, but once again it changed line 8 to the incorrect version. Using an online sitemap.xml, I generated a new sitemap and replaced the incorrect one with the online creation. However, every time I make changes, I don't want to go through this 'create-copy-paste' in my hosts file manager; at 75 I may forget! So, my question is, if I buy the latest WWB 21, do you believe the 'glitch' may no longer be present?

There is no known 'glitch' and Pablo can't investigate this unless you provide what he's asked for. So, the answer is this: if this is indeed a bug, and not a configuration error, then yes, the bug will still be there as this is the first we have heard of it. But, it is most likely a configuration error (AI will not know enough about this to be able to diagnose the actual problem, and is not your best friend here). Your best course of action is to provide the demo file requested and go from there.

If you set the wrong properties, the output will be invalid. For example, if you do not set the URL, it will not appear in the output code.
This is not a glitch in the software, but a user error.
If you need assistance, please share a demo project so I can try to help you.

FIXED!!! In the hreflang, I had en-gb without the required URL - so no glitch, apologies, entirely my fault.
