Walter Zorn Tooltips extension.***Updated 10-9-2011 ***
UPDATE - Version 2 September 10, 2011
Walter Zorn Tooltip Extension . Version 2.0.0.0
Main changes made since the last version (1.01)
* Body and heading text input is now through the Rich Text input box
(much easier, more flexible text input and formatting).
* Provision to insert HTML objects into the tooltips - such as hyperlinks, tables,
marquees, inline frames etc; - by copying and pasting the object code.
* Disabled native browser tooltip suppression .
It was sometimes causing problems in Firefox. ( under some circumstances all native browser tooltips on
the page were suppressed after the WZ tooltip was triggered).
------------------------------------------
This extension uses Walter Zorn's JavaScript, DHTML Tooltips library, which is free and known to work in all browsers ( except really old ones which nobody uses any more).
http://www.walterzorn.de/en/tooltip/tooltip_e.htm
These cross browser JavaScript tootlips have many options and settings , most of which have been included in this extension.
Works and validates in Document types: HTML 4.01 Transitional and XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
Use and features:
Free to use - Walter Zorn's JavaScript, DHTML Tooltips library is published under the Lesser General Public License (LGPL).
Ideal for using as tool tips or as pop up information boxes with a nice fade in / fade out effect. Great for showing extra information when hovering over links, images, text or any other object. - Information inside the tooltip will be seen by search engines.
The appearance and behavior of the Tooltips can be individually configured and styled to blend in with your web pages.
Fade in / fade out , automatic size adaptation to content, adjustable opacity, positioning options, shadow options, option to include image, background image and many more - too many to list here - have a look on the Walter Zorn web site or just download and install the extension - it's very easy to use.
I have included some extra formatting and layout options in the content container div so that you can easily add some things like a heading, image float (text will flow beside and under the image), adjustable image margins and some others.
I hope you find it useful for your web sites.
Feedback welcome.

Hi,Clay.
I,m not familiar with the Walter Zorn Drag and Drop library (I have only looked at it briefly ), and I'm not really sure what you mean about using the tooltips to to achieve what you are trying to do.
Do you mean: can you use the WZ tooltips instead of the Drag and Drop library to have some content hide and show by clicking on and off just one button?

Maybe you can use this :

Thanks Eddy,
That's really great. Ideal in fact.
There is also a clone of the Walter Zorn tooltips page here...... http://www.frontiernet.net/~bambam0099/ ... ltip_e.htm
but unfortunately some of the tooltips have images which don't show because they are linked back to the original site.

Links inside Walter Zorn Tooltips
Just create a link on your page in the normal way , then right click on it and choose : HTML .....
In the Object HTML window under Generated HTML: , copy the line of code and paste it in to your text (where you want the link to appear) in the body text entry in the WZ tooltips properties.
To ensure that the styles work ( hover, visited link, etc; ) you will need to leave the original link on you page somewhere ( you can hide it if need be) - and have at least one link for each different link style on your page so that the styles are preserved.

ken.smith wrote:I would just like to add that the links above all relate to version 4 of the wz_tooltip, circa 2007.
But I have managed to find this web page which has documentation for version 5:
http://gualtierozorni.altervista.org/to ... ltip_e.htm
(I don't know if Gualtiero Zorni is a pseudonym of Walter Zorn?)
Also, as I use version 5.11 of the tooltip myself, that version is on my own website at:
http://www.ken-smith.co.uk/wz_tooltip.js
R.I.P. Walter Zorn and Thank You...
Thank you Ken.Smith
Anyone out there know what Gualtiero Zorni is about?
Sounds like it maybe an Italian translation of Walter Zorn. But why?
I have used version 5.31 in the WZ tooltip extension.

ken.smith wrote:Hi All, If you test the WZ Tooltips in IE9 or Firefox 4 you'll see that they don't work properly if WIDTH is set to a specific width. The word wrapping is broken, probably because the new fonts used by IE9 and Firefox 4 are slightly wider. But worry not, I have worked out a fix. If you replace tt_w += iAdd; in the wz_tooltip javascript file with tt_w += iAdd + 2; it will increase the width of the tooltip box by 2 pixels, which should solve the problem in most cases, although centered text will look slightly shifted to the left in IE8 and Firefox 3. If you don't use bold text you may be okay just increasing the width by one pixel. If anyone has a better solution please post it. Cheers.
Hi Ken,
Thanks for pointing this out.
Unfortunately I have not been able to see the problem you described.
Have tried in both Firefox 4 (RC) and IE9 wih fixed width toolips but looks O.K. to me.
Could you please post some instructions on how it may be reproduced?
Thanks.

There is an alternative to this tooltip that is already a working extension - see if this helps you in any way.

@ Adendum even using the alternative wont help, as wendy1 is using the trial version of WB and extensions dont work in trial mode.

Ahh, didn't see that bit.

Hi Wendy1,
Sorry, I've only just noticed your post.
If you are willing to leave your email address I can correspond with you to help you with inserting the code into your website.
If you you do not wish to leave your email, then it can be done via this forum, but it would have to be done within the context
of using Wysiwyg Web Builder.

Walter Zorn Tooltips extension do not work with Rel 8.2
Title Text and HTML Text are working, but not Body Text and Heading Text.
Click on Body Text or Heading Text calls an error message box "An unsupported operation was attempted."
Any idea how to work around it?

Sorry I could not get back to you sooner.
The Web Builder team seem to have fixed the problem with the rich text input in extensions - have you installed the WWB 8.2 update?
Unfortunately, the instructions text box at the bottom of the extension properties window seems to have disappeared.
Most disappointing if this is intentional.
I wonder if anyone else has found this to be a problem?
Re: Walter Zorn Tooltips extension.***Updated 10-9-2011 ***
Yes, right, they fixed Tool Tips yesterday, but we still have problems.
Some other extensions still do not work on the same site with Carousel -
like Rocking and Rolling menu. We wil see..
Thank you.

Strodlee;
Just a quick question. Is there any way to add just images instead of text and also does it have to be GIF? Can it be PNG? I am building a bilingual site and it is none English.

Hi Bendigo.
Yes, you can have an image in the tooltip without text. Just delete the default text in the Body text entry.
Images can be bmp, jpeg , gif (even animated gif ), and png.
With PNG images, there may be issues in Internet Explorer with certain types of images with transparency when combined with fade-in, fade-out when you have a transparent background in the tooltip - ( Tooltip Box / Background transparent ).
As long as you have a coloured background in the tooltip, then that should not be a problem.
These behavours are not confined to the Walter Zorn tooltip though.
There are lots of posts on the web from people seeking solutions to problems with Internet Explorer and PNG images with reduced opacity or fadeing.
(black jagged edges, solid ugly black where a shadow should be). Not a problem in the other major browsers. Just Internet Explorer.
No, Internet Explorer still has not got PNG support right. Not IE 7, 8, or 9. - But there are some work-arounds.
Anyway Bendigo, I'm sure you know this already. - Just had to have a bit of a rant.

Hi;
Great stuff. Thank you for a detailed reply. Glad you got it off your chest
I seem to have an issue as I would like to use your extension with this by RZ
viewtopic.php?f=42&t=45904
and it does not work. Can I confirm that it is just image and test objects that it works with?

Hi Bendigo.
The WZ tooltip works on almost any object that has an id .
It usually won't work on an object which already has a mouseover event assigned to it. Could it be to do with that?
If you could let me know exactly what you want the tooltip to work on I'll see if i can work something out.

O.K. ,Thanks Bendigo.
I was just about to send you my solution, which was to change the id entered in the wz tooltip from: cmd_bio to: cmd_bio_icon .
But I'm not sure if I understood exactly what you were trying to do anyway. So it's good you got it sorted.
