1. In a new fresh page, design your background as you usually do.

put here your fullsize-background; can be a simple image, a slideshow or even a flv or youtube video!
refer to the FullScreen Background, FullScreen BG YouTube or FullScreen BG FLV.
and follow the proper steps as in the first post or the attached info file.

2. In your main page, drag and drop this extension.

in this page, the Fullscreen/Proportional Background vPatch points to the page you made to be used as a background.

3. Open its properties dialog and point to the background page.

here you point to the page you built in the step #1 (among other optional parameters).

you are NOT following the stated steps...

** you forgot to place here the fullscreen background extension that manages the slideshow **

2. In your main page, drag and drop this extension.

in this page, the Fullscreen/Proportional Background vPatch points to the page you made to be used as a background.

3. Open its properties dialog and point to the background page.

here you point to the page you built in the step #1 (among other optional parameters).

I would also like to use your extensions, but your instructions are really terse and I haven't been able to get anything to work.
Can someone provide a step-by-step instruction?

From the info file:
How to use?

1. Drag and drop an Image object or a SlideShow object [where? On a separate page or on my index page?].
2. Drag and drop this extension [Where? On the image or the index page?] and enter the object to convert. [How?]
3. Publish or preview.
4. Enjoy!

----------------

Followup - I tried all the extensions, and this is what happened:
BG vPatch sort of works, the image doesn't scale to the screen size.
BG YouTube sort of works, "Mute" was set to "Normal", but I get no video - just audio. Set "Mute" to "No Sound" and still sound, but no video.
BG FLV sort of works, video works as expected, but sound is always on regardless of the "Mute" setting.
Fullsize Background never worked. How do I set the "Image" parameter? There is no dropdown menu there, so what do I manually enter?

Thanks,
Steve

@steve
if the instructions are so insufficient for you, please read all the thread so as you can learn from other users' experience - usually my extensions hare self explanatory by their properties.
SteveMann wrote:1. Drag and drop an Image object or a SlideShow object [where? On a separate page or on my index page?].
2. Drag and drop this extension [Where? On the image or the index page?] and enter the object to convert. [How?]
1st where?
wherever you want to have a proportional full-sized background

2nd where?
wherever you want to have an image to be used as a full-sized background

also note this as stated in the first post and in the info file attached to your downloaded zip:
* Please note: most options related to user interaction are not available in preview mode.
(this applies to the full-sized video backgrounds)

how?
dragging and dropping the extension where you have the image to be used as a full-sized background
opening its properties dialog

hope this helps and regards

I did spend two hours reading the whole thread. Unfortunately, almost all responses were RTFM, but I was finally able to figure out where to drop the extensions. Perhaps my confusion was because though I was initially correctly following your instructions, the extension I started with never worked. I tried the other extensions and this is what happened:
BG vPatch sort of works, the image doesn't scale to the screen size. Why, please?
BG YouTube sort of works, "Mute" in the extension was set to "Normal", but I get no video - just audio. Set "Mute" in the extension to "No Sound" and still audio, but no video.
BG FLV sort of works, video works as expected, but sound is always on regardless of the "Mute" setting in the extension.
Fullsize Background never worked. How do I set the "Image" parameter? There is no dropdown menu in the extensions' properties dialog.

I was not looking for user interaction of mute or volume. I set the "Mute" in the extension to "No Sound" and still heard the audio.

I don't think I am asking a lot - I followed your instructions and experimented with the extensions for hours, and the one that I most wanted to use (Fullsize) never worked. I am simply asking what could be wrong. I've read the manual.

1. volume/mute/pause/etc functions work only when the page is published, won't work in preview mode
1.a. the video and/or audio depends on the original clip
2. vPatch works when it points to a page that has the fullsize background extension in it
3. the image parameter is the image object id, as stated in the property description; please note there is no dropdown list as in all extensions built with the extension builder, you must manually type in the object id
4. without seeing what you did, it is very difficult (even impossible) to give an useful advice, please post your 'non-working project' sample

I started over and got everything BUT the Youtube extension to work.
To silence the FLV playback, I had to set the volume to zero. "Mute" has no effect.
The YouTube video never shows, but I get the audio regardless of the volume and mute settings in the extension.

When you get around to it, could you advise on the remaining issues?

Everything is here including a download link: http://www.obsw.com/fz/index.html

I appreciate your looking at the YouTube and FLV plugins - it's not urgent since the only plugin that I wanted to use right away was the FullSize background, and I figured that out. But I would like to know what I did wrong.

thanks

hello steve
i looked at your project
i didn't investigate the flv/mute issue yet - hope i can do this when my notebook is back
anyhow, attached is your project fixed and with notes in each page
hope the clarifications help you to understand how the extensions set works
with regards

(ps: again, youtube controls such as volume, mute, pause, resume work only when your site is live, and not in preview mode)

hello steve
i see that you edited your post :?
you said there that the youtube ext doesn't start muted
i myself double-checked this and i can assure that it works, just don't test it in preview but live
there are not issues with this at my end
can you please test it again and confirm this?

You read too fast - that's why I edited the post. YouTube does start muted.

BTW - you mention in the extension that the player can be controlled with events. Can you expand on that?

Thanks again, you have been a great help.

Re: FullScreen Proportional/Background Pack *** UPD May-21-

Post by [RZ] »

there is nothing to expand, pls just refer to the first post and/or to the attached info file in the downloaded zip...

from there:

About the FLV and YouTube videos:

If you want to build your own control panel, here are the available functions:

MyObjectID_play()
MyObjectID_pause()
MyObjectID_stop()
MyObjectID_volumedown()
MyObjectID_volumeup()
MyObjectID_mute()
MyObjectID_unmute()

Add these functions in any object that supports events.

(please note: you must publish your page to see them work)

don't forget to change 'MyObjectID' by the actual object id...

hope this helps

An update.
I was successful in adding YouTube controls using the functions as events. Why would anyone want the background to act as a player is a mystery, but the functions do work.
I "fixed" the FLV audio by adding an OnLoad event, _mute() for the page. That works.

With your permission, I would like to write a step-by-step detail of how I used the FullScreen extensions. It may help others using the extensions for the first time.

Here's what I've done so far: www.obsw.com/fz

lol i dont know...
SteveMann wrote:I "fixed" the FLV audio by adding an OnLoad event, _mute() for the page.
i will research what the issue is; it works fine at my end, of course, i did a live test, not just a preview...
SteveMann wrote:With your permission, I would like to write a step-by-step detail
yes, i agree, but please wait, i'm not sure if it is true that there is an issue in the flv, please re-test and double-check that this doesn't work at your end, but be sure that is live, not preview...
SteveMann wrote:Here's what I've done so far: www.obsw.com/fz
it's fine, however, you can improve the control panel using more events, i mean hiding/showing the buttons, i.e. clicking on mute, hide it and show only the unmute, the same for play/pause, and so on... ;)

i mean hiding/showing the buttons

I thought about that, one button for play/pause, one for mute/unmute, but I just wanted to demonstrate the use of the functions.

Hi.
I would like to create a full width slideshow, much like:
http://www.azamaraclubcruises.com/

It seems that your vPatch part of your background/proportional pack will do the trick.
I have followed your instructions to the letter (I think):
-Created a new page and placed the content (in this case just an image)
-In the main page, I dragged the vpatch extension and pointed it towards the new page
-I made sure any of the pages were not centered vertically & horizontally

The outcome: The image appears centered on the main page, but not full width, such as you have on your demo (with the bird..)
Yours even adjusts dynamically according to screen size and resolution..

What am I missing here?

Thank you.

Thanks guys.
Started from scratch (went through the entire thread) & managed to get it working.
Unfortunately, I could not open the example provided as I am still using WB8.

Now, the page with the Vpatch extension leaves a 5-10px margin for some reason (both top & left) when previewed
The margins in the properties box are set to 0.
The thread does not mention this problem.
Any way to adjust this?

Thank you

the thread doesn't mention this problem because is unrelated at all with the extension - is not an extension problem but a design topic
please read and learn how layers work, wb is full of help text, samples, tutorials and documentation
by the way, there is nothing i -and anyone else- can say to help you if you don't post a sample project with your problem, saying "doesn't work" simply "doesn't help to help"

Yes. thank you.
I know about layers, have embedded an image within a layer on the new page and the margin problem is now sorted.
But you know, that's all you needed to say: "Insert a layer on the new page and place your content therein.."
No need to go on about "Go read & learn", etc. I think it has been established that your are good at what you do.
Why be condescending?
Anyway, thanks again.

One question though, how would I make a slideshow that isn't full height?

the fullscreen ext always makes an image or even a slideshow fullscreen, doesn't matter which original sizes they are.
if you want to limit it in its height, you must move the page with the slideshow and the fullscreen to an independent page (subpage) that will act as a fullscreen/background; then, in the actual page, add the vpatch ext and point to the that page (subpage) that you moved to the slideshow and the fullscreen ext.
pls read the thread in full and also you can download the demo that stevemann did.
thank you for your feedback, hope this helps.

the vpatch treats the background image proportionally but in a fixed height and a variable width
of course you can make it bigger if you want, only in a fixed height...

Question - why does enabling "mobile optimized" (scale or no scale) result in the mobile device zooming in and not fitting the site full screen like normal? Is there a way around this?

if you enable zoom in and you do the gesture to zoom in, all of the elements will be zoomed in
if you don't like this option or doesn't fit your design, you can disable it
