Paypal : Three Different Postages?
Paypal : Three Different Postages?
I have a Client that has three different postage amounts depending on where the product is being posted to.
Is there any way that I can easily pass a field to Paypal that requires the buyer to enter which of the three locations they want the purchased products to be posted to?
The only other way I have thought of doing this is to have three buttons - which are labelled as one each of the three destinations which are actually PayPal buttons - each with the respective postage.

Re: Paypal : Three Different Postages?
How about using a combobox with the three postages in the select. Have text saying please select your area with a note also saying that if incorrect area selected then correct postage will be applied. You will need to add this as a extra variable to the paypal button using something like name shipping value 10.00, name shipping_1 value 15.00 and name shipping_2 value 20.00 not at my PC Colin or would post a example.

Re: Paypal : Three Different Postages?
Lets say in the combobox you set as follows Area 1 10.00, Area 2 15.00 and Area3 20.00 then in the paypal button you use what i have already mentioned as the varables what should happen is that select Area 1 10.00 pulls/calls the variable with the same and posts to the cart/paypal. As mentioned not at PC as trying to catch some Zzzzz but will try post something later

Re: Paypal : Three Different Postages?
Hey BC,
I did dabble with a combo box on the web page - that just past text values - handy if you had, say a lot of shirt sizes - mind you, I haven't had time to check if my "try" was to the extent of and had the functionality as you describe it.
Even so, if I understand your suggestion correctly, would I be any further forward doing that when I could just have three Paypal Buttons labelled Perth, WA (Western Australia) and Interstate - then code the postage accordingly.
What I am trying to achieve is one Add To Purchase button then the intended buyer selects the postage inside PayPal - I'm trying to do this without a third party cart handler - I've asked my Client for his PayPal password so I can look at his PayPal account configuration.
I'll also approach PayPal and see what they come up with.
Again BC, thanks for buying into this - it's really appreciated.

Collin;
Without getting into some sort of war on free extensions & paid ones, this is the definitive E-commerce tool for WWB. It was designed with feed back from the users:
viewtopic.php?f=53&t=62166
It offers all you need (Including your request in this thread) + more, what you could do it add its price to the price you quoted the client, this way you don't pay for it. This is how I operate.
I use them in 3 sites I have built.
Hope this helps.

Re: Paypal : Three Different Postages?
I dont see anything in this thread that mentions extensions it is asking how it can be done with the tools provided so there is no war. What there is is some friendly "free" advice on how to achive this without the use of extensions whether "free"or "paid". Is this not what the purpose of the forum it is for to offer/ask advice on how to use the "tools" already available if possible without promoting extensions of any sort.
Colin please forget that I offered you any assistance I guess I should have not done that as it seems that is not what should be done hope you can sort this how you choose to do so.
To [rz] who may or will have read this I have nothing against you personally in anyway what so ever your contribution to the forum and your extensions is outstanding and deserve payment so nothing in what I have said reflects against you or your extensions.

On the contrary BC my friend your advice has been invaluable - there is a good chance your greatly appreciated input may be exactly what I need when I get a chance to pursue it to the extent your greatly respected input deservesColin please forget that I offered you any assistance I guess I should have not done that as it seems that is not what should be done hope you can sort this how you choose to do so.

That's your prerogative. I am not here to defend or advertise anyone's work. I simply offered my option as someone who has built 3 sites with such a feature. If you want to be childish and take this like a war of who's better, then good luck to you.BF- Colin please forget that I offered you any assistance I guess I should have not done that as it seems that is not what should be done hope you can sort this how you choose to do so.

@Collin - The choice is your, I simply offered something that I had done. I assume you do this for living, if so you could offset the price of the extension on the client's final bill.

Re: Paypal : Three Different Postages?
ColinM I must immediately declare my lack of expertise, but this is the way I handled the same (?) problem:
http://www.johnsmithbusker.co.uk/ordering.html
But this was the OVERALL price, not just the postage !
If I recall (difficult at my age) I DID have to do this inside PayPal, but I can check further if it looks
interesting to you

Ha Ha love your opening modesty statement Jon. With all the demands on my time, I still haven't yet had a chance to pursue the solutions kindly (and greatly appreciated) offered - but I THINK that's along the lines of where BC was heading.donjohnson24 wrote:ColinM I must immediately declare my lack of expertise, but this is the way I handled the same (?) problem:

Combining the item and postage cost was not something I thought of - so definitely interested in how you did that please? Just two points which I hope don't sound unappreciative, I've noticed that combo box doesn't have a "Please select one" as a first option (with a can't select on it) and, trying to make it bullet proof - there's nothing stopping someone clicking on the "add to cart" button and "selecting" the Europe destination by default.
But yes, looking forward to you getting back to me Jon - awesome that you've done exactly what I wanted.

Re: Paypal : Three Different Postages?
Hi Colin this is exactly were I was heading. I have even read your previous posts about what your trying to achieve for your client ie having to select a minimum of 12 bottles of wine before they can pay. I even believe that using just the "tools" ie checkbox, combobox and PayPal button and a little script(javascript) you can do what you want.
I will explain the checkbox is used to select the bottle oncheck it would add to the cart the buyer would need to select the required amount 12 (with a warning if the maximum is not selected) and select the postage (combobox) before being able to click the PayPal button. I know all this sounds long winded and not as simple as maybe using a extension but my reason for trying to help is to show it can be done with the tools the program provides nothing else nothing less and a little help in the right direction. As always if I can help I will try and if this benefits others/members then so be it. I will say no more on this as it not with the stress or agro it may cause.

Hi BC - again thanks mate really appreciated - as you say, there are greater knock on beneficial effects - when I get time I'll stage one of the wine pages so you, Jon and any others that want to help can see what I (and they) are dealing withBaconFries wrote:Hi Colin this is exactly were I was heading. I guess that the XXXXXXXXXX would be a unique code appropriate to the PayPal account, so I've overwritten it
This code was created by, and then copied from, PayPal - starting from somewhere like
https://developer.paypal.com/docs/class ... s-buttons/
but I can't remember the exact procedure at the moment (my excuse is I'm 75 )
No doubt you will be able to create your own buttons with these hints ?

I hope this helps

Yes, I did have a chance Don to dig further into one of my Client's PayPal account and upgraded mine to a business account (to assess the situation) and you are right, the code is generated by PayPal when creating buttons - then the code is imbedded in your WB project with, as you say. a code unique to that PayPal account. I've also had a chance to discuss the options at this stage with my Client and he prefers having three PayPal buttons (each one configured with the appropriate postage) - so I'll go down that path.
I had actually explored this before (my 59 YO failing memory ) - it all came back to me.
Another issue arose - that of linking to an image in the Client's PayPal config and HTTP/HTTPS mixed content without assigning a digital certificate to the Client's website - otherwise you get a browser prompted "unsecure content" warning - which is offputting to a buyer and seen on far too many websites - even Government ones.
But the Client doesn't want to pay for that so we'll just run with a text label identifier in their PayPal account.
Thanks Don - you've been VERY helpful and well done in keeping your Brain sharp at 75!
Yours truly
