Is this possible (visual effect, while collecting form data) within WB ?

I can't get my head round how to achieve it - in particular closing the gap between displayed components (when other options are hidden)

You may be able to do this with events and/or conditions.
If you use floating/flexible layout then hidden objects will not take up space in the layout.
