How to prevent a large slide show downloading ?

Post by nrgiser »

Hi to you good folks,

I have another question, similar to one I posted recently about images but this time about a slide show.

Is there a way to prevent my large slide show that is good for break point 1920px from downloading when someone is viewing the page on a cell phone which would be break point 320px.

Not so much the slide show but the actual pictures in the slide show.

I cannot just hide the slide show for the 1920px with different and smaller pictures in the 320px break point as it will still download in the back ground. I would like to prevent it from downloading in the first place, similar to when you enable lazy loading on a single image.

Thank you in advance

The images used within the Slideshow are 'preloaded' by the script otherwise any animation used wouldn't work.
When using the likes of slideshows you should always ensure the images are optimised. By this I am referring to the image weight size it should be in KB's and not in MB's as this will help speed loading.

Thank you very much BaconFries,

As always I appreciate your suggestions and will look at doing that and optimising my images even more.

My images in my slide show range from 110 kb to 215 kb, this is fine for the 1920px breakpoint but I would have liked to get them down to the range of 30 to 50 kb for the 320 breakpoint.

I do not think this will be possible though as it will effect the quality of the 1920 break point images to much.

Appreciate your feedback as always,
