Looking for some help..
I inadvertently deleted some files from the root directory. But I have anything back working fine except my custom 404 page.
I have a custom 404 page made Ex: https://www.edesignsplans.ca/404.shtml
I have the .htaccess file with this on it "ErrorDocument 404 https://www.edesignsplans.ca/404.shtml" uploaded to the root directory.
So here is the weird thing thing:
If I make an error from a page in the root directory it works fine. Works... For Example. https://www.edesignsplans.ca/contact_usA.html
But if I make a error from a sub folder I get the 404 page but it is messed up?
For Example: https://www.edesignsplans.ca/e-designs- ... 3726A.html
So I don't know what is going on.
Any thoughts?
Thank and Merry Christmas all
Mystery 404 error page?
Re: Mystery 404 error page?
Try changing the ErrorDocument line to the following:
ErrorDocument 404 /404.shtml
ErrorDocument 404 /404.shtml

@Jerry There is no need to double post you have already asked this previously at the following
https://wysiwygwebbuilder.com/forum/vie ... 75&t=87309
I have moved both times from the General section to Off Topic as it is not related to WB but a server configuration.

Re: Mystery 404 error page?
Some things to check and consider... Are you using a .htacess? if so have you configured it correctly? Did it or has it previously worked from a sub folder? Have you changed anything or has your host?
Re: Mystery 404 error page?
Thanks for getting back to me.
Well I figured out the problem.. it was me. Go figure
I had the htaccess file done right but I did it in Notepad and I saved as htaccess.txt
So after reading you guys comments it finally hit me so I removed the .txt and all works fine.
I am now doing a complete backup of my site.
Thanks so much to all of you on this forum for helping an old guy out.
Merry Christmas and all the best in 2020.
