WB16 HTML5 Video Not Working

Post by Surveyor »

I cannot get a MP4 video to play in WB16 in chrome, or any video. I cannot find a solution on this forum either.

I've tried renaming my file to 1.mp4, tried the Media HTML5 Video, extensions Unite Gallery and Video Gallery with all the same result, no video.

Any suggestions, or additional info I can provide.

Thanks
-Cory

I changed files and it works with the Video Gallery but not the Unite Gallery. It just has the thinking wheel spinning.

I will assume it is just my file for now. Possibly needs to be re-exported? Any additional input would be appreciated.

Please read from the following urls regarding naming of files. This includes not starting with a number, no spaces, no special characters and using uppercase.
Note auto play is disabled in Chrome and all modern browsers. This is because it was deemed annoying to users and to save battery life and data when opened in the equivalent mobile browsers. You can also remove the audio this will allow the video to automatically play.
As mentioned by yourself please ensure that you have exported with the correct audio codec so that the video / audio plays.

How do I name my pages, images and other files?

Note that WB16 will publish the video "AS IS".
The player functionality is built in to the browser, so if the video does not play then either the video is not in the right format or the filename may be invalid (not web safe).

I need a little educating on the MP4 format, and why it works in some resolutions, but not others.

I converted a wmv file (5 meg, great quality) to MPeg-4 with 24 bit, 1280x1080, 30fps (file size is 25 megs, great quality)

The 1280 x 1080 works in WB16, but if I reduce to anything smaller it will not play, and/or the quality is drastically reduced to an unusable state.

Can you tell me what is the best file Format / Settings is to achieve playback in the Video Gallery and retain small file size and great quality?

I am using Corel VideoStudio 2018.

***I don't see how I can add a wmv file in this forum***

Thanks,
Frustrated

I would think the quality of the video is going to be based on how good your original video is and the software you use to convert and compress the video with down to mp4. It has nothing to do with WB since the video is played by the browser. There is nothing in WB to make your video look better.

Did you apply different breakpoints to the page you use the player on? By adding these will allow the video to resize accordingly to the page size. I would try and keep the size of the MP4 to as minimal as possible this is to save bandwidth when viewing on the likes of mobile also your host may limit the size you can use.

As already mentioned the software doesn't change the quality of the video this is done by the browser. Note we do not offer help on third party software such as you mentioned. It is not possible to playback a video directly but you can provide a url to it from your site for viewing or share a basic demo of your project so any and all settings can be viewed.
