Version 16 Issues with Zoom Text

Post by faithfulfox »

I have been trying for a year now to install and run Version 16.
After a clean install of WN 10 I thought all would work. It did not.

I was able to isolate the problem to the use of Zoom Text software - produced by Freedom Scientific.
It is a screen zooming software designed to assist with vision limitations.

Version 14 & 15 worked fine and WYSIWYG Web Builder has become a very important software for my regular use. But I paid for Version 16 a year ago and have still not been able to enjoy its benefits.

Any ideas on a work-around to this issue?
To just turn off Zoom Text is not an option.

Can the publisher collaborate with Freedom Scientific to solve this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Behavior:
When starting V16 the logo screen flashes for 1 second and then the program crashes.
If I start the program with Zoom Text disabled as soon as I try to go to a menu screen of any kind it will crash.
Processor: Intel Core i7-6700k
Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 980

Do you mean zoom text in the user interface?
If it worked in version 14 and 15 then most likely your DPI configuration is different in version 16.

See also this related FAQ:

Crashes are most likely related to a corrupt configuration.

Freedom Scientific, the current publishers of ZoomText Software (Magnifier and Reader) have been very responsive in trying to pinpoint and help with the issue. It is likely the Windows UIA, which we have no control over.

I have tried every potential fix they were able to come up with. Nothing works.

So, I suppose now my question is: How do I request a refund from WYSIWYG Web Builder Publishers. I am happy to support them but to pay for a program that has not and does not work is not good. What process do I need to follow?
Thank you for your help.

@faithfulfox, It's a shame you have been unable to get it working and it seems it has nothing to do with WB itself but I'm curious, and I'm not trying to be rude here, as to why you think WB should refund your money after a year? I don't know of any software company that would refund your money after having it that long.

Version 16 is not fundamentally different than 15, so if the previous version worked then I am sure version 16 can also work.
Did you compare all settings of version 15?
Did you try all DPI related suggestions?

Modifying the DPI setting did not help.
And the DPI setting is not checked on Version 15

And there is no difference in the computer on any settings I know of between v15 and v16

I am not unhappy to be paying for WYSIWUG Web Builder. I would love to have a working version of the upgrade, and I paid for it within minutes of its availability, without even trying it yet. I would be happy you them to just apply it to V17, if I can get that to work. I just don't like to pay and get nothing.

What I really want is a solution.

Did you also try the DPI compatibility options of Windows?
Do you have another computer you can try it on so we can be sure this is not an issue of your computer only?

I do not have another computer to try it on or I would have done that long ago.

I have just installed Zoom Text on my own computer and it seems to work fine with version 16. I cannot find anything that does not work.
Are you sure the problem is related to Zoom Text in combination with WWB16?

Did you also try all suggestions from your other post? You did not respond anymore, for example what is your system configuration etc.
viewtopic.php?t=92552

Can you please confirm that you have tried all the suggestions?
Also, you wrote:
Finally! I deleted the registry key of v16 and reinstalled and it ran as expected.
So, at one moment you were able to run it, right?
What is the current status, does it run or are there errors?
Please try to be as specific as possible. No one else has this issue so I can only help if you provide all the requested information (see also the original post)

When I first installed 16 on the computer it would run but if I tried to do anything in a dialogue it would crash. The test I used was to simply change the size of a page, but to change the properties of any object had the same effect. I blamed WN becasue by then I was having other minor problems with WN. Later it would not even install. Someone here helped with that. But 16 would not start. Just a flash of the logo and then it was gone. When I did a clean install of WN 10 last week I thought it would solve the problem. It did not. I isolated the issue to Zoom Text. It will start and run and not crash if I shut down Zoom Text completely. Freedom Scientific has done an admirable job of working with me to try to find a work-around on their part. Nothing they offered changed anything. That is where we now stand. I must use Zoom Text. But 16 will not work with it. Version 15 does not have any issues with Zoom Text or the WN AIU.

I appreciate the efforts you are making to help.

WWB16 work for me with Zoom Text installed. So, I am sure it can also work for you.
Did support of Zoom Text also try to run WWB16 on their computer?

Did you do a clean install of WWB16? With a clean documents folder (no left overs form previous versions)?

Did you check the Windows event logs for errors?

Do you use Windows 10?

Did you both try the 32 and 64 bit version?

The ZoomText support tried installing V16 and they said it ran but crashed when they tried to perform some actions.
When I installed a clean install of WN 10 one of the first programs I installed was V16. But I did not try it until a little later.
I have not tried 32 bit version since the clean install and I will do that now.
I did not check the error logs.

It is good to hear you are running ZT and V16. That proves it can work. It could be a hardware issue but the Video card is a high end card.
Thanks for your input.
