HTML File extension removal

Post by chistinoor51 »

Hello,
I am not sure what i am missing in this case. I have added the html removal codes to the htaccess and then enabled file extension hiding option from option. Then did a full upload of the entire website but still the .html extension is showing. Interesting fact is if i delete the html extension from browser, the page works perfectly. just by default the extension always shows which i dont want. Please help me if possible.

I cannot see what you have done based on the published page, but it looks like the option 'hide file extension for internal links' is not enabled or you did not republish all files.

I think depends on the code you use on .htaccess and be sure to use canonical url. I have removed .html and .php extension from my website so I did not face any problem.

Hello Pablo, thanks alot for replying. I have done this process several times. I made sure that the hide file extension is enabled and performed a full upload of all files. I have added a drive link of my project zip which might assist you to figure out the issue or my mistakes. please if possible, get a chance to look up my project files.

Based on your project, it looks like your menus were created with extensions.
Unfortunately, extensions do not support this feature, because they do not have access to internal settings of WWB.

CLICK OH HELP BUTTON TO SEE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO USE CANONICAL URL.

If you have different pages with similar content (for example, a page with both a mobile and a desktop version), Google sees these as duplicate versions of the same page. Google will choose one URL as the canonical version and crawl that, and all other URLs will be considered duplicate URLs and crawled less often.
