site failed to publish

So for some reason HostMetro kept failing to publish. No idea why other than Host Metro. So after hours of back and forth emails and Hostmetro making incremental suggestions that didn't work, I changed to SFTP secure shell SSH2. My site, however sluggishly, actually published. Great, but what is SFTP and should this be deemed a permanent fix? As stated, the loading is sluggish. btw, I have no idea what SFTP even is.

SFTP is 'Secure FTP'. It is a secure (encrypted) version of FTP.
Many web hosts have stopped supporting standard FTP because it is not secure.

If is slow then maybe your firewall is limiting the connection?

Pablo, but I disabled the firewall. Possibly the network is just slow today. I can live with slow, cannot live with "failed to publish"
