Compressing images

In this modern time of fast download speeds, is it still necessary to compress images? The average size of my images are 200 x 200 pixels.
Never complain about getting old, the alternative is far worse!

Also depends how many...? I always optimize them first for the right size and after compressing them without losing quality.
