Issue with STOCK PHOTOS

Post by dustyboots »

Hi everyone i'm using version 18 and have issues inserting or seeing any stock photos...

refereing to this video after ~5mins:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vvpD-uAK2s

initially i created an account with UNSPLASH and then put the code into tools/options/ecommerce/unsplash key.
After trying to load stock photos the software would crash everytime.

Then i removed the the code in the unsplash area and the software still finds no photos - i used a simple search "dog"
so its not as if i was searching for something that unsplash would not have. Another friend on version 17 showed me
a screenshot of his working - without API key and he saw images.

Hope to get this working...

Thanks

Dusty

I believe that the video was made before the Stock Photos were built into the software - you do not need an API key.

In the Toolbox under Images you will find a Stock Photo object - place this on to the page and you can then connect to Unsplash as well as Pixabay and Pexels and then choose the image that you want.

Hello Lumis, as my post indicated ive tried with and without the api key and dont see any photos...

Without it - i just select tools>stock photo - drag the stock photo box into the drawing space, double click, select unsplash
type in "dog" and search - it always says "no photos found".

Im wondering what the api key is doing in the ecommerce section if it has no purpose.
As greg indicated all those years ago i think it should allow faster access using a private
key instead of the public api that is likely built into wysywig editor.

As i cant seem yo upload images here unless cloud based - later i might do a loom video...

Hoping to solve this...

Thanks

Dusty.

Have you tried the built in tool on a blank page as it works without problems for me? If it works on a new page then there is something causing the problem on the page where you are using the object. Have you checked for errors by going to Page>Error Reports?

Uploading images to the forum has been disabled for security reasons. This doesn't stop you uploading to your own host/server and provide a url to view the image(s). As a alternative you can also use the following
https://imgbb.com/upload and as before provide the generated url so to view.

On a side note the issue may be be related to permissions of your AV or Firewall and it/they are blocking the connection. To resolve please allow the webbulider.exe access to use your Internet connection this should then resolve this.

please see above for video of issue.
no api key being used.
no photos loading.
i use windows firewall but dont think i've explicity 'banned' WSYSWIG
nor is it giving any warnings of this programme not accessing the internet.

this 2nd video shows the crash - when trying to use API key.

UPDATE: checked the firewall and added WEBUILDER exe to the list.
Shut down and rebooted programme. Images from cloud still don't work.

First note that you do not need an API key. It should also work without it.

I also think the issue is related to your firewall, virus-scanner or another tool that blocks the connection with the server.
It is also possible that your system's ransomware protection blocks the cache folder where the images are downloaded to before they can be displayed.
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\unsplash

Do you have another computer you can try it on so we can be sure this is not an issue of this computer only?

ive switched off windows defender firewall and currently can't see if there is any other software
in the mix here that might be blocking that folder - will explore further.

failing this will take your advice Pablo and try installing on one of the other pcs in future.
Whilst i really expected this to work - it is not a total deal breaker!

thanks again
