New User Transitioning from Net Objects Fusion 2015

Post by buff51 »

A Microsoft security update has rendered my Net Objects Fusion 2015 (NOF) program inoperable. I uninstalled the update and finished the project I was working on, but in the meantime I purchased WYSIWYG Web Builder and now I have a steep learning curve. I have a lot of questions. The forum rules say to just ask one question per post, so the first thing I need to know is how to build a box that I can put text and photos in. NOF has a tool to create a "Layout Region". There are all sorts of options, including adding a border to distinguish the box from the background. The box becomes an object that can be moved around on the page along with all its contents.

Is there a similar tool in WYSIWYG? Thank you in advance.

From reading about what you mentioned "Layout Region" the following on "Layout Grids" may be what you need

A good place is to start at the beginning on using the software.

Firstly, I think it's important to note that WWB is a modern web design tool. So, you may need to rethink your workflow.
I do not recommend to use the same approach as with NOF. Instead look into flexible layout instead of absolute layout (like in NOF).
That may save you a lot of work if you want your website to be mobile friendly

There are some very good videos on YouTube. I made the change a few years ago and watched a lot of video.

Dapson Ishmeal has some good video - subscribe to his channel
Greg Hughes does a series of 90 Minute Web Builder that I learned much from.

My biggest challenge was figuring out what tools should be my basics. There are many options. So here is my 2-cents (about what it is worth)

Start a new site.
Drag a couple of Layout Grids to the page
Adjust the number of columns in the Layout Grids to how many objects you want in that row
Drag a text object and an image object into a Layout Grid
That will probably be your basic building blocks for your sites, just use the help to read about options for Layout Grids, Text, and Images
Good luck. Amazing Software and a superb forum.

Thank you all for the tips and suggestions. I have been using NOF for 24 years. I started my website in 1999 and, at this point, it is huge--thousands of pages. I have no intention of rebuilding the entire website, but there are key pages that need to be updated periodically and I will have to rebuild those pages from scratch. It is too late to make most of the pages expandable and phone/tablet friendly. But I could try that with new pages going forward. Again, thanks.

I'm still learning myself. Tons of videos on youtube.
Also, you can use the many premade blocks. Then look under the engine to see why they work.
Blocks can be a time saver.
Good luck,
