I have encountered a problem with a web site that I'm building. I have used the Form Wizard to build a Contact Form on the feedback.html page. 'Enter' generates the error message, but I can find no problem with the Form template or the Advance Form Processor Properties template.

I have contacted StableHost, my hosting service, and AT&T, my ISP. At this point I am still waiting for a response from my ISP.

I have put the short site I wrote to test the Contact form, and have uploaded to my Dropbox account:

If the email are not sent, then this means that the properties are not correct.
Are you sure the SMTP configuration is correct? Also, are you allowed to send emails from the 'from address'? If not, then set a different 'from address'.
What is the error when the web host tries to send me message?

Yes, I did read the PHP version comparability document. A s consequence I set the StableHost version to 8.1.

I just changed the version to 7.4. When tested, the error message was the same, 'Oops! Error'. That is the error message that I wrote.

Does the response to https://dnschecker.org/#MX/sbcglobal.net in the reply to my query to StableHost have any relationship to this problem? HI have no idea what it means.

Note that this has nothing to do with PHP compatibility or the DNS configuration. Unless this is a requirement of the server.
Usually (99.99%), when emails are not send it is related to the configuration of PHP Mailer.

To answer this this is your host simply telling you they don't have a clue and passing the buck back to you and saying the fault is with the software/code (developer) which in 99.99% of the time is untrue. This can be seen by there answer about the error.html which has nothing what so ever to do with the error_log of the php on the server. The error.html is simply for use with the form in WB and only is used if the form isn't submitted correctly..

There is a lot of information that has nothing to do with sending emails through a form.

It is important to understand that the email of the form is sent via the webhost server
Normally, this is done via standard PHP mail.
In your case, it looks like you have set up PHP Mailer with SMTP. So, I assume that you received this information from your webhost and that this is valid?

If you are sure this is valid, then something on the server side may be wrong.
The only way to find out what is wrong is by looking at the PHP error log because the server is processing the form.

So, all you will need to ask your web host is 'where do I find the PHP error log'?

The problem has been solved.

I was checking your code and seems that there was a missing variable that was avoiding to show the error on your script.

I have corrected this and now the error is showing up:

Oops! Error: SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.

This is related to a bad password or wrong parameters given to php mailer.

I have also saw this question:

The error log can be fond at the root folder of the php script used.

On this case, the error log is located at /test.insilicochemistry.net/error_log

This seems to indicate that you did not publish all files.
The files SMTP.php, POP3.php and PHPMailer.php should be published to the same folder.

Also, note that PHP Mailer requires PHP 5.6 or newer.

Unfortunately, I then realized that I had, rather stupidly, uploaded the compiled file that was not the one that had been edited by you. Rather t,he compilation that had been changed.

Consequently, back where we started. In retrospect, I should have asked which file had been modified?

However, it is important tat I know what the exact error to be able to help you find out which setting in your form are incorrect.

My conclusion, in great part, s that I don't know just which forms have to be filled out for the Contact form. The reference documents that I have been able to find are either not applicable or a bit out of date.

It looks like the same log as the previous one. Are you sure this has the most recent info?
Based on the log it looks like there are no recent errors. So, that means the form works technically. But there may still be an issue in the configuration which prevent the server from sending emails.

Can you please add the error message (##error##) to the error page?

It turns out there were problems with my hosting service account. After multiple exchange with their tech support, the problems have been resolved'.

In my opinion, your setting are incorrect. Please double check the SMTP configuration.
Note tat only your web host can confirm these settings are correct. Everything else in your form is correct.

The PHP script is working as expected, the issue is that it is not doing what you really expect.

I saw that the "Subject or Message" field was excluded from the web form and that is causing the message body to be ignored on contact.php:

We need to include the textarea into the form and make sure its position will remain, so I made the changes to make sure it will look fine:

To make the text-area part of the form, simply drag the object inside the form. Make sure it is not place outside the boundaries of the form.
This applies to all form elements.

In the project you have shared, the text area is already inside the form!
However, the page you have published, the text area was (accidentally?) dragged outside the form.

I have created a test site consisting of index, feedback, thankyou and error pages. Support at Stable Host has told me that the text area s missing form the Contact form. I use the Wizard to construct the form.

It has been posted to https://test.insilicochemistry.net at StableHost. I have also uploaded the files to my Dropbox account. The URL is:

Accessing the site and submitting the filled out Contact page frm results in the Thank you message is displayed. If the bank forms sent the error page is displayed.

I have also noticed that the published site is missing the formatting of the master_page.

Support at Stable Host has told me that the text area s missing form the Contact form. I use the Wizard to construct the form.

I am sorry to disagree, but in my opinion the form in the shared project is correct.
The text area, is part of the form: https://test.insilicochemistry.net/feedback.php

In your project, you can easily verify this by moving the form.
If the text-area moves with the form then it is part of the form.

The only thing that may be wrong is SMTP confguration.

You were quite correct. There was one error is the SMTP settings. After I corrected the error I found the error in the in box of the appropriate email account.
