Your opinion is important
I am repeatedly advised by web designers (one of which is my son in law) to ‘modernise’ my WWB website. But! Hand on heart, I receive very many unprompted compliments weekly from customers, both online and by phone, how informative, clear and easy to navigate my site is, to the degree that many customers claim that after viewing my site they decide to look no further. I did attempt a large full page super image with an ‘enter’ link, but that failed badly if sales are an indication. Regardless, I would really like the ‘experts’ opinion here with constructive critique to improve.

I did see your website a long time ago to be honest. Some years ago atleast. It has improved over the years the content looks good could be improved more. But I do see you used alot of breakpoints along with Absolute layout design meaning layers or shapes. I was more hoping for responsive layout grids or a flex.Trugmaker wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 12:32 pm I am repeatedly advised by web designers (one of which is my son in law) to ‘modernise’ my WWB website. Webdesign is a work of art for sure. Some people might say this is not good enough but from my personal perspective the website looks fairly fine. I do like the classic design it has that royal retro look and most of all the website's Logo color matches the websites entire color scheme.
If I talk about the content then I could say it could be altered or improved based on some basic SEO improvements which may add or delete things here and there a little depending on need. Other than that it looks to be a straight forward landing page although it is on a basic of an ecommerce.
Now as you mentioned about navigation which means the menu. If I were you I would have closely heard to what the customers suggested as the website was not built to wow the owner but the visitors also. So sacrifices are made sometimes in terms of design just because of your users clients and their experience which has to be compensated.
As you mentioned that visitors that many customers claim that after viewing your site they decide to look no further. That statement I would have asked the customers the reason why and make amendments regarding that. It is interesting indeed why would the clients would not want to look on your website although everything is informative, clear and easy to navigate. Did you ask in which part they wanted the improvement?I receive very many unprompted compliments weekly from customers, both online and by phone, how informative, clear and easy to navigate my site is, to the degree that many customers claim that after viewing my site they decide to look no further.

Excellent advice.
I did peruse your site and enjoyed it. Your content is very good, which is the most important part. I do agree with you son-in-law the site does look a bit "dated".

I took that comment from customers to mean that they decided to look no further because your site satisfied all their needs.
Isn't that what they meant?

As WWBman I too read it as the "customer" on visiting the site has found what they were looking for and have no need to visit any other site offering similar products for sale...not that they do not wish to look any further on the site

Exactly. And I also read it as customers being happy not seeking a competitor.

Re: Your opinion is important
If we suppose the clients or users do find the site satisfying enough then it should have good sales as indication for sure unless having a lack of marketing. If not then the ease of the website is not the problem. The problem is lack of advertisement social media marketing or even SEO and if you touch the seo subject the website ease or design might change a bit. As second advise I can say that if you think your site is beautiful to you and to your clients then try to do more advertisement or social media marketing and search engine optimization for it.
Html is the skeleton, CSS is the skin, Heading and Content is like the veins and muscle in the body and the meta tags in the Head is for SEO which is the identity of what you made. Try to make a human out of your website and your business shall be established.
There is a saying. When you do advertizing or marketing manipulative enough you can make a rock worth a gold. So try to do that and your site might get more sales increase. Remember it is not about people saying how beautiful the site is, it all comes down to the business if you now what I mean. Try doing some blogs on how to use those things you made, beautify it. Put some galleries put some videos. Post stuffs regularly on social media. Slowly and steadily try to do social media marketing. Luck will favor eventually.

Re: Your opinion is important
A business website is there to attract customers/orders. As long as you are achieving this to everyone's satisfaction then that's all that matters. The clamour for a so called 'modern' website that looks the same as everyone else's website is just unnecessary.
Re: Your opinion is important
Thankyou all. Piecing all comments together, overall I think I need to make more use of social media which I will attempt. I realise I have somewhat overlooked this aspect, this is because, I repeat, the majority of my customers are very elderly and I so often hear "Oh I don't do that stuff I'm 82".
Perhaps I didn't make it clear that the comments "I'm looking no further", means they do not wish to look for other makers.
wwonderfull suggests too many breakpoints, but there are only three, I have attempted the other method of responsive layout, but it proved to be too complicated (for me) to warrant it.
Thankyou again
