Font errors after updating to WWB19

Post by GNP »

Hello,

after updating to WWB19, I seem to have error previewing a specific font, namely - Barlow Semi Condensed.

I am currently using "Barlow Semi Condensed Regular". But now it has disappeared from the font family in WWB19. I see all the other Barlows in WWB19's font drop-down menu, EXCEPT "regular".

Also, when I preview my site in Firefox, all text using Barlow Semi Condensed are not working. Other fonts I've used are still working. Only the "Barlow" family font isn't working.

So, I tried switching to "Barlow Semi Condensed Medium". I still have trouble previewing the font correctly in the browser. It doesn't display correctly in the browser. But other fonts like "Bebas Nue" and others are working fine.

Here is the link to my working project file.

Thank for the project!
It looks like Google Fonts has changed something in their API.
I will investigate what has changed and release a workaround in a few days or sooner, depending how complicated the changes are...

Ahh I see. Well that's really beyond the scope of troubleshooting then. Thanks for much for your quick reply, Pablo! Much appreciated! I'll keep this thread open and wait for an update then.

Luckily in the meanwhile, I don't have to make further changes to my site that was released with WWB18! I'll just leave the online version as it is then.

Thanks so much again Pablo!

I did try to use "Barlow Semi Condensed" in WB18, but that does not work for me either.
For example, I have tried to use it in a heading object or menus and that does not work.

Does it still work for you in WB18?

The last time I was using it, which was today, it worked for me.

Unfortunately...I've already saved my working project file in WWB19, which means I can't open it in WWB18!

I've also already uninstalled WWB18....

I am working on finding a workaround. However, this is pretty complicated so it may take longer than usually. Any changes made to fonts may have a huge impact on the software's behavior so this must be tested extensively before I can release an update for this.

Sure thing. Take your time man. I don't think I'll be updating my site for a while now, so at least that's not so bad.

I really appreciate the extensive testing before release. I'm sure all of us will benefit from your hard work.

Thank you so much again Pablo!

I downloaded and installed both the condensed and normal Google Fonts Barlow from the Google site. Although 'Regular' is listed in the font zip files it doesn't show up in WWB or MS Word (the only two I checked). There is a font simply named Barlow. Perhaps they just dropped the regular from the name? Doesn't seem to be a WWB specific problem.

Checked WWB18 with the same result.

Hi,

Yes "Barlow" alone works. But like you said, this is where the problem is, "Barlow" alone works okay, but "Barlow Semi Condensed" and "Barlow Condensed" regular does not show up in WWB19. So as Pablo mentioned, it probably has to do with Google making changes to their API.

"Barlow Condensed Regular" is the same as "Barlow Condensed", WWB19 no longer show font with regular because it is not correct to use this naming in websites.

However, "Barlow Semi Condensed" not showing is a different issue which will be fixed as soon as possible.

Fantastic! It works! Phew! Thank you so so much Pablo!

I can confirm I can see "Barlow Semi Condensed" now, and when I preview it in a browser, it all works perfectly.

Thanks so much again.
