Indexable page not in sitemap

Post by mac13 »

Hello,
I have a question about sitemap.
While reviewing my site on http://ahrefs.com, I discovered a sitemap error (?) where the main page was missing from the sitemap. The message reads:
Non-canonical page in sitemap, URL: https://wasowscy.net/, Referenced in sitemaps: https://wasowscy.net/sitemap.xml
This is probably the main page of the website: index.html, which is marked as canonical and is actually not included in the sitemap generated by WWB. There is only the domain name: https://wasowscy.net/ (at the end of the sitemap file).
My project: https://wasowscy.net/wasowscy.net.wbs
Please explain where this error comes from and how I can fix it.

Regards,
Maciek

I also used https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html

It found no errors.

Another thing I noticed is that why other than the index page all pages have <changefreq>never</changefreq> I mean is it that you never update those pages? Another thing is that the homepage should have the prime priority at least a 0.5 but you had set 0.8

Didn't you previously ask this, but have since deleted the question. What was the reply given then and if any did you try it/them?

https://wasowscy.net/ and https://www.wasowscy.net/ resolve to the same URL. That means you have successfully canonicalized your url according to test.

You said canonical url is https://wasowscy.net/index.html meaning even if people wrote https://wasowscy.net/ it would go to https://wasowscy.net/index.html although I would suggest the opposite.

The "index" page is typically named index.html, index.php, or another default filename, and it serves as the default landing page when no specific page or path is provided in the URL. For example, if you enter "www.example.com" in your web browser, the server will typically serve the "index" page as the default home page for the website.

So that means you don't have to lead people to an index.html page of the domain it is already going there as it is the main directory of the home page and if the page is inside a folder, then usually if advanced options and .htaccess settings are done then it does not even show index.html it just shows the folder name www.example.com/products/ and not www.example.com/products/index.html because google and others recommend cutting them short for better readability and not to be considered as duplicate https://support.google.com/webmasters/a ... 9066?hl=en

If you had written https://wasowscy.net/index.html/ inside canonical url and went to tools>seo and on the url if you had written https://wasowscy.net/index.html/ then on your sitemap it would write an extra "/" and you would not see index. and the extension of the page
<loc>https://wasowscy.net//</loc> (Which is invalid)
