Breakpoint of site versus setting in nested grid

Post by rongreen »

I am hoping someone can answer what I hope is a simple question regarding the setting of breakpoints at the site level versus in a nexted LayoutGrid? For my site breakpoints, I have them set at 1280, 780, and 440. Then a senior member on the forum recommended that I used nested grids and graciously sent me a project example which proved to be instrumental in fixing a number of issues. However, what I am still struggling with is when you are using nested LayoutGrids what are the rules for setting the breakpoint fields in the grid's properties? For example, one of my site level BP's is set to 440, but in the example I received it was set at 480 in the BP field in the LayoutGrid's property panel? I am not challenging the fact that they are different, but I would like to know why they are versus being the same? Thanks in advance for responding.

The breakpoint in the layout grid is when you want the grid to switch from horizontal to vertical. This can be at any time you want. If you want it to correspond to a page breakpoint, you can do that as it is up to you. I usually set the grids to change based on page breakpoint or in most cases 1px less. So if you have a breakpoint at 768px and the grid looks good but I want it to switch to vertical when less than 768px, then I set the breakpoint at 767px in the grid.

In the example I sent you, i may have failed to change this on the grids. Don't get too hung up on it. Use the breakpoint when you think you need to use it from a design standpoint.

So it can be left blank and it holds to a horizontal until the next breakpoint, correct (in my case 440)?

The breakpoint can't be blank. It has to have a number. If you never want it to flip to vertical, then you would put 0 for the break point.
