Hamburger Menu - simple requirement?

Post by dustyboots »

Hi all

I almost got there using the panel menu but could not get the panel menu to open directly below the hamburger menu icon...

In a previous post I mentioned-

Using this one as an example:
https://ibb.co/0DThSr6
https://www.tesla.com/

I am hoping something similar exists in standard (or paid) WB18 nav menu.

Requirements:
1. Hamburger should show two icons - hamburger when closed and cross icon when open.
2. Hamburger should open as full width screen on mobile directly below the icons - but not full height or it could be full height but not full width….because….
3. !! Clicking outside of the menu area should also close the menu (as would clicking the cross).

There is no exact copy of the specific menu, because there are millions of possible variants of these type of menus. There is no way to implement them all. No matter how many menus we crate there will always be more...

However, there are many menus available:
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/navigation.html
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/navigationpack1.html
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/navigationpack2.html
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/navigationpack3.html
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/navigationpack4.html
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/navigationpack5.html

There are also third party menus:

Also, nothing keeps you from creating a menu yourself.

@Baconfries - good afternoon - i've added some detail to the requirement (screenshot above) The previous post was under "themeable" menu i felt it was in wrong place and warranted its own topic. Sorry for any confusion - not intended.

Anyway - so far I cannot find a hamburger menu that will do all three things. I am trying to avoid using events at this stage - but thought as Pablo indicated that might be the way. e.g. Overlay two icons and have a basic menu block appear below it.

I think this is basic hamburger requirement seen on a lot of websites - hoping a more experienced users could let me know if one of the standard menu tools might work. If i could get the panel menu to appear directly below - as per my screenshot i think ive then solved it as it allows a cross icon and closes when you click outside the area.

This exact menu type does not exist because it has never been requested before.
But you can post your 'requirements' in the suggestions section of this forum.
If more users find this useful then I will consider it for future development.

There is no one more experienced than Pablo himself so if there was I am 100% sure he would have said so and pointed you to it. And not to sound rude just because you need this doesn't necessarily mean it should be available because you have seen it used elsewhere. As Pablo you can make a Suggestions for it and I am sure he will take it under consideration.

I’ve taken time to look at a lot of the menu extensions and also purchased them all last week - hoping one of them would ‘tick all the boxes’ - If I was not trying to match an existing website this would not have been posted - because we all know there is loads of options.

As Pablo indicates - Will later post as feature suggestion.

Wishing you all a great weekend!

@crispy - yes that’s excellent - all the functionality is totally there - the minor point or ideal ‘copy’ of the website menu I’m looking to replicate would be dropping down from the top. Not sure if I could purchase this sort of menu from you as an extension or if it’s work in progress.

FYI- I was looking at all your templates before posting here. Top work and apologies for slightly delayed reply.

I updated my demo (see original link) to slide from the top. Is this how you want it to look?

hi @crispy - yes its very close - Referring to my screenshot - https://ibb.co/0Mb71bc
The current site has a fixed header or white band at top and the blue icons are top right
- the menu just appears directly below the icons it does not cross over the icons.

Best thing i can likely do is ping you a link to the website im working on via your website.
Just tried to call - no answer.

Happy to contribute...

The reason why the menu slides in behind the "main menu links" and can be seen is because the header (with the menu) has a transparent background. If I were to change it to a solid color background then you wouldn't see it sliding behind the text. I was recreating the Tesla website where the main menu shows the image behind it.

@crispy - thanks for that feedback, it looks like we are very close to an ideal solution.

I have updated my demo to match your menu. Shrink the browser window to see the burger menu appear.

Wow thanks @crispy I checked your live link and that works pretty nice. Currently having problems with the wbs file you sent me but I’m thinking that’s maybe as I don’t have slider menu installed - will explore further…
