Carousel stopping after hitting navigation arrows

I have a carousel that works fine, slides move along fine on their own. But as soon as one presses on any of the navigation arrows,the carousel will go forward or back depending of course on the arrow, but after that one click, the carousel does not continue moving on its own to the next slide. How do i enable it to continue sliding?
